Ein Platz, um Links mit witzigen Inhalten zu posten. The Onion ist eine satirische Zeitung, die seit den 80er Jahren die Nachrichtenindustrie parodiert. Seit den 90ern gibt es auch eine Online-Ausgabe und ein Unterhaltungsmagazin, The A.V. Club. Mittlerweile sind einige Bücher von der Redaktion veröffentlicht worden (u.a. „Our Dumb Century“, ein Rückblick auf das 20. Jahrhundert). Ein „The Onion“-Spielfilm ist z.Zt. in Arbeit.
„Viewers are absolutely captivated by the show,“ said executive producer Oleg Medvedev. „To watch people get up there and have a chance at eating, it’s a thrilling fantasy.“
Still, some viewers complain that the questions are too easy.
„I watched the other day, and they ask the man to name year Trotsky is assassinated,“ said Svetlana Tretiak, an 83-year-old retired seamstress from Orsk, a tiny village in the Ural Mountains. „This is ridiculous. If food is on the line, I expect questions are more difficult than this.“

„Coming in at an exhausting 7,000 years long, music is weighed down by a few too many mid- tempo tunes, most notably ‚Liebesträume No. 3 in A flat‘ by Franz Liszt and ‚Closing Time‘ by ’90s alt-rock group Semisonic,“ Schreiber wrote. „In the end, though music can be brilliant at times, the whole medium comes off as derivative of Pavement.“
„We can only hope that [music] will begin to grow with its fans over the next few millennia,“ Schreiber said. „If it can stick to what it does well, namely the song ‚Peg‘ by Steely Dan, and Tuvan throat singing, then a sophomore effort will indeed be something to get excited about.“
Still, most analysts agreed that the impact of Pitchfork’s scathing review of music will be dampened by the 2.4 rating it received from Pitchfork staff writer Dave Maher just moments after the initial critique was published online. Maher termed Schreiber’s assessment of music „overwrought, masturbatory posturing intended to make insecure hipsters feel as if they’re part of some imagined elite beau monde.“

jimmyjazzMittlerweile sind einige Bücher von der Redaktion veröffentlicht worden (u.a. „Our Dumb Century“, ein Rückblick auf das 20. Jahrhundert).
Noch besser als „Our Dumb Century“ ist übrigens „Our Dumb World“, der Onion-Weltatlas (scheint es z.Zt. nur in der Taschenbuchausführung zu geben). Glaube, davon gab es auch mal ein Google Earth-Add on.
Empfehlenswert ist auch Mike Sacks‘ Interview mit Todd Hanson, dem ehemaligen Chefredaktuer von The Onion, in Sacks‘ Interviewsammlung „And Here’s The Kicker“.
