Hier mal ein Hinweis auf die schöne Platte von Danny and Dusty.War ein einmaliges Projekt von Mitgliedern des Dream Syndicate,The Long Ryders und Green on Red.Mit ner tollen Version von Knockin`on Heavens Door.Wurde vor ein paar Jahren auf Cd neu Veröffentlicht,hat als Bonus das sehr gute Bend in the Road.Das gab es meines Wissens nur auf verschiedenen raren Samplern des Zippo Labels

BullittKann mir jemand sagen wo ich Medicine Show bestellen kann? Warum ist es so schwer da ran zu kommen? Habe jetzt alle üblichen Mailorders abgeklappert und nichts gefunden. Und bei eBay gab´s nur Vinyl :(

Das sind in der Tat gute Nachrichten, habe ich heute auch gelesen. Das ist wieder mal eine schöne Gelegenheit, Lücken in der Sammlung zu schließen. Bin schon gespannt, welche Bonus-Tracks das denn dann sein werden.

beatlebumAm 28. Juli 2006 kam es im McCabe’s Guitar Shop, Santa Monica, CA bei einem Steve Wynn Konzert zu einer kleinen Dream Syndicate Reunion. Folgendes wurde dargeboten:

Die komplette Show, inclusive Steve Wynn Solo Set, steht unter dem obigen link in verschiedenen Qualitäten zum Download zur Verfügung. Ebenso gibt es einen Stream.

Der Beitrag ist noch nicht einmal 3 1/2 Jahre alt und schon habe ich ihn entdeckt.
Diese akustische DS-Reunion ist wahrlich gelungen. Schönes Konzert.

The 2010 version of „Medicine Show“ ships on June 15

After a 20-year wait, the Dream Syndicate’s 2nd album „Medicine Show“ finally returns to CD and this new version is an update worthy of the wait.

The 2010 digipack version of the 1984 classic features a sparkling, powerful sound, mastered from the original tapes as well as an expanded booklet with revelatory liner notes by David Fricke never seen before photos from the archives of Laura Levine.

And if that wasn’t enough, this new version includes the entire „This Is Not The New Dream Syndicate…..Live“ -including the lengthy workout of „John Coltrane Stereo Blues“ which didn’t make the cut on the original 1991 reissue.

From Steve:

„I’ve made over 20 studio albums in the last quarter century and „Medicine Show“ sounds unlike any of the others. Even though each of them occupies its own sonic space, they all follow some kind of logical trajectory. „Medicine Show“ is the odd man out. Not only does it not remind me of any of MY other records, I can’t even think of anything else that sounds quite like it. I still play most of the songs live on a regular basis but the record itself is beautiful, unattainable, right and wrong in all the best ways.

Karl wanted to make a big, panoramic rock record to justify our move to a major label and the plethora of attention we had received in the mere nine months that had passed since the release of „The Days of Wine and Roses.“ I wanted to make a „beautiful loser,“ button-pushing, over-the-top emotional catharsis in the tradition of most of my all-time favorite records (i.e.. „Big Star 3rd,“ Tonight’s The Night,“ „Plastic Ono Band,“ etc.). We both got our way– and in ways that neither of us could have predicted. I think it was this improbable collision of desires and personality that gives „Medicine Show“ its character.

But the other part of the record’s sound and mood is the time it took to make it. Try these numbers on for size:

The Days of Wine and Roses (recording, overdubs and mixing): 3 days, 8 hours a day

Medicine Show (recording, overdubs and mixing): 5-plus months, 7 days a week, 14 hours a day

Sandy Pearlman drove us to the limit and beyond, and you can hear the discipline, defiance, cracks-in-the-armor, mania, psychoses and the final graduation from all of the above in these tracks. I hear the laughs, the fights, the late nights, the booze, the Tenderloin, the Mission District, Sandy’s ever-present baseball cap, the Clown Alley burger runs, late nights watching Dr. Gene Scott, the perilously high 24th- floor efficiency apartments at the Fox Plaza and every one of the days and days and nights and nights when I listen to this record. And I wouldn’t change a thing.

It would all make a good book. And, in fact, it probably will someday.“

Das neue Album ist fertig (das erste seit 1988) und die Band ist auf der Suche nach einem Label, das es veröffentlichen wird. Bei Blue Rose müsste man sich doch eigentlich die Finger danach lecken. Bin jedenfalls sehr gespannt.

Sind die überhaupt noch bei Blue Rose unter Vertrag? Seit  dem letzten Newsletter habe ich nämlich das Gefühl, die Firma geht den Bach runter.

Ich dachte da eher an Steve Wynns langjährige Treue zum Label. Von The Dream Syndicate gab es ja seit bestehen von Blue Rose kein neues Material.

Die Einschneidungen betreffen ja nur den Mailorder. Dass sich das in dem Umfang nicht mehr lohnt, kann ich mir gut vorstellen.

Ok. Aber einige Künstler die vor einigen Jahren vom Edgar exclusiv in unseren Landen vertrieben wurden sind nicht mehr dabei. Ich denke nur an das New West Label, an Künstlern fällt mir spontan Rich Hopkins ein.

Ist der New West Deal nicht schon seit längerem Geschichte? Neues Album von Rich Hopkins erscheint wohl im November, interessiert mich aber nicht. Nach Devolver konnte mich da leider nichts mehr überzeugen.

Die Frage ist natürlich, welche Vorstellungen The Dream Syndicat so haben, vor allem finanziell. Bei manchen Bands ist das manchmal recht unrealistisch, da wird noch von weltweiten Verträgen etc. geträumt… die Zeiten sind aber leider (überwiegend) vorbei.

Blue Rose verfolge ich schon lange nicht mehr, das war mir irgendwann zuviel Americana und drumherum. Was steht denn im neuen Newsletter?

Der von mir sehr geschätzte Chris Cacavas hatte mit seinem letzten Album auch bei Blue Rose angefragt, hat sich aber leider eine Abfuhr geholt. Er vertreibt das Album (ich kenne es bisher nicht) jetzt direkt von zuhause, da sich sonst wohl kein Label dafür interessiert, schade schade… (ich glaube, Chris spielt auch auf dem neuen DS Album mit?)
