Meinst Du ich soll’s nochmal probieren, ja? Hatte mal WHAT’S GOING ON und es klickte nicht. Die 60er Sachen die ich von ihm kenne, hauen mich auch nicht vom Hocker, auch „Grapevine“ nicht. Soul ist, auch wenn es ein älterer Verwandter von Disco ist, eh nicht unbedingt mein Lieblingsgenre. Ich probiere mal HERE, MY DEAR. Oder hat jemand einen besseren Vorschlag?

„Hear, My Dear“ ist zwar eine seiner besten Platten, ich würde dir aber als Wiedereinstieg eher „I Want You“ empfehlen. Wenn du allerdings mit Soulmusik grundsätzlich nicht kannst, wirds wohl auch mit dieser Platte schwer.
Wundert mich allerdings, dass sein Song „Sexual Healing“ so hoch in deiner Gunst steht.--
Warum gibt es in den US-Charts wesentlich mehr #1-Hits als in den deutschen?
Ich weiß… mehr gute Sachen, die ständig nachdrängelten, weil die US-Charts so gut waren (:muede:), aber vielleicht gibt es ja noch andere Ursachen.

Nein nein, so schlimm ist es nun nicht mit dem Soul. Es gibt reichlich Sachen aus diesem Bereich die ich sehr mag. Wäre bei einer Schubladen Top 10 aber wahrscheinlich nicht bei… (Pop, Rock, Pop/Rock, Disco, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, IDM, Alternative, Trip Hop/Downbeat… das wäre alles noch vor Soul).
Ich probiere mal I WANT YOU und HERE, MY DEAR. Schaun wa mal.

Nein, mit Motown hat das nichts zu tun. Mag ich sogar sehr, auch wenn ich Stax mehr zugeneigt bin. Obwohl man das gar nicht vergleichen sollte.
Es ist schwer zu erklären. Ich hab’s mit Marvin wirklich probiert, immer wieder mal, aber da berührt mich einfach nichts, weder die frühen 60er Sachen, noch weniger dann „What’s Going On“, ich finde da keinen Zugang. Warum auch immer, ich weiß es nicht. Ich kann das alles wertschätzen aber nicht lieben.--

Ja, „What’s going on“ ist eines der Alben, die einen sofort in ihren Bann ziehen. Oder halt eben nicht und dann wohl auch nie. Insofern kann ich deine Haltung nachvollziehen.
Die „Stax oder Motown“-Frage stelle ich mir mindestens 1x pro Woche. Wohlwissend natürlich, dass das unsinnig ist

So, nach den deutschen Top 1 der 70s und denen aus dem UK habe ich mir nun die USA in den 70ern vorgenommen. Es gab auch hier manches nachzuhören, sogar noch umfangreicher als bei den deutschen und britischen Charts. Und unter dem Strich ist die Qualität nochmals ein Stück weit besser als die der UK-Hits und erst recht die der deutschen Hits.
