How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?Jetzt habe ich sie doch, ein wohlmeinender Mitmensch hat mir dir Doppel-CD geschenkt, nachdem ich beim Renovieren und Umzug geholfen habe.
Die neuen Stücke sind gut, vor allem All the Rage.
Ansonsten werde ich mit Goats Head Soup nicht warm. Klar, einige Perlen (Star Star, Silver Train und auch Hide Your Love), einiges Mittelmaß (Heartbreaker, 100 Years Ago) und unnötiges (Can You Hear the Music). Und die Faszination von Angie erschließt sich mir immer noch nicht …
Was mir gut gefällt sind die Demos und alternativen Mixes auf der zweiten CD.
Ich weiß, viele werden mich msl wieder für bescheuert halten, aber Dirty Work und Voodoo Lounge gefallen mir besser. Goats Head Soup rangiert für mich gleichauf mit Steel Wheels.
Egal, es war eine Auflockerung des Wartens auf die Atlantic City-Box--
Mit dem neuen Mix werde ich bisher nicht warm, da hat mir der aus der großen Vinyl Box besser gefallen aber die Bonus Tracks gehen in Ordnung.

Aber so laute Sachen sind meist doch auf Albumlänge ziemlich nervig.. ….vielleicht ist es auf LP besser.

Der neue Mix klingt gut, ich mag es wie man den sehr verspielten Wyman klar heraushören kann! Ein genauer Vergleich ist mir nicht möglich, muss auch nicht, da gibt es andere Experten für. Bin sehr gespannt auf die zweite CD!!--
living is easy with eyes closed...CD2 ist echt der Hammer, wenn es auch gerne hätte mehr sein können, die Remixe gegen Ende brauche ich nicht so sehr, aber gut…. Viel spannender sind die Outtakes und die Instrumentals!
Und bei CD1 muss ich zugeben, mag ich Angie sehr – ich fand da den Gesang immer etwas zu aufdringlich, ist aber was ganz persönliches

living is easy with eyes closed...Platte #2 rotiert hier am häufigsten. Kann mich da claus und otis‘ Statements vollends anschließen. „100 Years Ago“ in der Pianofassung ist mein absolutes Highlight!

Habe mir jetzt heute die 2CD-Ausgabe geholt und bin sehr zufrieden mit dem neuen Mix, der ja an einigen Stellen schon sehr deutliche Unterschiede bringt. Tolle Platte, ich mag sie immer wieder, gehört für mich schon noch zu der ganz großen Album-Zeit ab Beggars Banquet mit dazu!

Staring at a grey sky, try to paint it blue - Teenage BlueDer neue Mix ( …habe zugeschlagen, Vinyl & Digital, beide in der Luxusgedönsvariante, weiterer Urlaubsersatz..) gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut, die positiven Einschätzungen zum Bonusmaterial teile ich, da kommt wirklich Freude auf. GHS war seinerzeit schon einer meiner „Geheimfavoriten“, allein zu „Angie“ habe ich ein eher ambivalentes Verhältnis, zumindest live konnte ich da immer ganz gut drauf verzichten…

Ich habe bisher nur die 4LP Box, aber die kam auch von jpc. Die Bestellung aus dem offiziellen Rolling Stones Store ist bisher noch nicht versendet worden, soweit ich das überblicken kann. Wenn ich mir die Kommentare im entsprechenden Thread im Steve Hoffman Forum so anschaue, scheinen sich die ganzen Ausgaben besser zu verkaufen, als vermutet, viele warten auf ihre Bestellungen und berichten von Lieferverzögerungen bis Mitte Oktober.

How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?Gerade eben fand ich diese aus meiner Sicht sehr kluge Analyse bei RYM. Man muss nicht zum gleichen negativen Urteil gelangen, aber was der Autor zu sagen hat, ist gut beobachtet:
Goats Head Soup signified a sea-change for both the Rolling Stones and their audience, with long time fans already struggling under the weight of Exile On Main Street, feeling that The Stones had become something unrecognizable, superfluous, and at the end of a very long and influential run.
For many this glossy album filled with sex drugs and sleaze almost came and went without any recognition at all. The record was down right overtly decadent, highlighted only by the hit “Angie,” with rumors abounding as to who this Angie actually was. Angie wasn’t the only person folks were questioning as Keith sunk ever deeper into his addiction, and with Mick caught in a tailspin of jet setting luxury and passion plays developed a useless Andy Warhol personification of celebrity-ism that showed visible cracks beginning to form.
Some will suggest that the album is darkly alluring, excusing the over the top silly excessively immature sexual references and that held this release together, often vulgarly, and with a sense of meanness that created a significant riff for fans, where The Stones where up here, the fans down there, and never the twain should meet.
Released in August of 1973, the album began in Jamaica the year before. No longer was the band functioning as a cohesive unit … with Jagger taking on most of the infantile lyrics, sounding brain-dead weary and bloated, as if they tossed this release out there as an easy way to earn a dollar. Oddly, Stones’ fans didn’t seem to care with the album reaching number 1, and for this reviewer, signified the coming of ever less relevant Stones recordings. Goats Head Soup marked the end of the psychedelic trip, the end of attitudes acquired from the 60’s, almost as if this band of pranksters, who had delivered to us such magnificent albums as Let It Bleed, and Beggars Banquet where on the verge of releasing Some Girls and ushering in an entirely new audience to their shows, shows and music that were now more about being stars than being about great chords, super riffs, and laced with a unintelligence that was keeping pace with the mindlessness of things related to pop culture, tabloid news, and cocaine, the band now seemed that they had little they needed or wanted to prove. Though seriously, when a band rides around all day in their own private limos, what do they have to write about, other than trying to make the menusha of billion dollar lives sound interesting.
Bill Wyman’s influence was less and less evident here and over the coming years. Of course Charlie nailed his drums with proficiency and excellence, though it was staggeringly shocking to see that most of the songs had been written over the last two to three years, and were over-dubbed and re-recorded by producer Jim Miller and the new kid Mick Taylor, no doubt accounting for the album lacking a genuine Rolling Stones feel.
And then there’s the album cover, a cover depicting Jagger veiled and marble-eyed with ruby red lips, as if a porcelain doll, peering though a crevice that suggestively implies that of a woman’s vagina. Of course this indicates Jagger’s state of mind, that he is all things to all women with this embarrassing imaged nonsense being the most self-aggrandizing bit he’s ever implied. But this was the beginning of the 70’s, and there was more strangeness than the world ever imagined to come, and no one had to hold their breath waiting.
The album may be fun for a moment, but there’s really nothing lasting or to be treasured here. There’s really little to be argued over either, Goats Head Soup just sits there, recorded poorly, to remind us that excess is not to be taken lightly … as it is possible to drown in it far too quickly.
***And that “Angie” I mentioned earlier, it was about Anita Pallenberg, the girl Keith Richards stole from Brian Jones, with Keith an Angie both hopelessly drug addicted and lost … with the song “Angie” being the soul reason this album ever existed, though it was nowhere near or the par of “As Tears Go By.”
