Schon einmal etwas von der Compilation „Heroes Of The Night“ gehört, @herr-rossi? Eine Zusammenstellung unbekannter weiblicher Pop-Wave-Punk-Acts aus Ende 70er bis Anfang 80er. Vor allem der Opener ist sehr, sehr stark.

Passt hier gut, vor einiger Zeit kam mir dieser großartige Club-Gig einer unterschätzten US-Band der New Wave-Ära unter; die Soundqualität ist hervorragend und die Band klang so frisch, als wäre es wieder 1980:

Artsick was formed in June 2018 when Christina Riley (of NorCal band Burnt Palms) teamed up with Mario Hernandez (Kids On A Crime Spree, Ciao Bella) on drums and Donna McKean (Lunchbox, Hard Left) on bass. Following up their terrific 2018 7″ single they are now back with their debut album „Fingers Crossed,“ a thrilling, compelling and downright fun record that surveys a vast swathe of indie and indiepop history, from DIY progenitors like Dolly Mixture through the punkier side of C86 (think Talulah Gosh, Fat Tulips) to the 90s K Records-centered International Pop Underground and straight through more recent exemplars like Vivian Girls and Colleen Green. Christina says that she was „always been drawn to fuzzy guitars, melodies with emotion and songs with urgency“ and that is readily apparent on every moment of this excellent album. 11 songs, 11 potential singles and a blast from start to finish.

Ja, den find ich auch klasse…das ist glaub ich ihr erster Signatur Dance. Fängt bei „about damn time“ an:

Muna – das soll also der neue heiße Popscheiß sein?Vielleicht für den „Rolling Stone“ …;) Neu ist da gar nichts, das ist ja auch schon das dritte Album und Munas Sound hat sich nicht wesentlich verändert. Für mich klingen sie immer wie Electro-Pop-Haim. Sie haben eine sehr treue Fanbasis insbesondere in der LGBTQ-Community, aber ich glaube nicht, dass sie auch das ganz große Publikum erreichen werden. Das neue Album geht wieder leicht ins Ohr, aber so richtig begeistern kann es mich nicht. Am besten gefallen mir zwei der vorab veröffentlichten Singles:

Kind Of Girl
Auch an Lizzos Retro-Disco ist nichts „neu“ oder irgendwie originell, aber „About Damn Time“ macht einfach Spaß und reflektiert perfekt ihre Persönlichkeit, zurecht einer der Erfolgstitel des Jahres.

Dafür ist Lizzos Song aber toll und Munas nicht so toll.
