Yet, somehow, it works: at their best, this group is a transcendent experience, sluicing those carefully explored influences into something daring, new. ‘More Light’ does, for the most part, live up to this. Coming five years after their previous LP, 2008’s ‘Beautiful Future’, ‘More Light’ finds its makers with plenty of ideas to toy with.For example, the nine-minute opener ‘2013’ echoes the jaded glamour of vintage Roxy Music, but gradually shifts into free jazz territories. Almost every facet of Primal Scream is on show here: ‘It’s Alright, It’s OK’ (video below) is a gospel-tinged Faces-style rocker in the vein of ‘Country Girl’. But it’s the more experimental side that really impresses.
‘Tenement Kid’ and ‘Invisible City’ seethe with the anger that fuelled 2000’s ‘XTRMNTR’ album, except now there’s a righteous edge. Sure, Bobby Gillespie is aping his heroes, but there’s a sense here that the Glasgow-born singer is using his record collection as means to communicate his rage. A sprawling document, more of an old-fashioned double-LP than an iTunes listing, ‘More Light’ is, in short, an inspirational return. By no means their most straightforward endeavour, it finds Primal Scream covering ground they know well as well as exploring fresh territory.
Sure, few will love everything on here but the hubris, yet the sprawling mess that is ‘More Light’ can’t help but impress. To place it within the band’s own record collection: this is their ‘Sandinista!’.

WerbungHab‘ das Doppelvinyl seit Donnerstag & bin von den ersten 3 Stücken total geflasht. Gerade der geile Roxy Verweis bei 2013 u. dieser hynotisierende Primal Beat & King Bobby: that’s what dreams are made of. Die mittlere Phase des Twofers verlangt mir allerdings doch etwas Geduld ab. Der closer ist dafür wieder Stones 69 mit Mick Taylor. Immer wieder schön….
Obwohl Primal Scream für mich immer eine Single Band waren – ich habe mir immerhin 1991 bewußt „Movin all up“ als 7″ gekauft – mache ich mir 2013 die Arbeit in die Platte voll reinzukommen.

"And everything I know is what I need to know and everything I do's been done before."„2013“ ist wirklich ein verdammt großartiger Opener, aufreizend und fordernd. Das Sax-Hauptmotiv trägt über die ganze Spieldauer und frisst sich gnadenlos ins Gehör. Aber auch „River Of Pain“, „Invisible City“ und „Turn Each Other Inside Out“ sind ziemlich hörenswert. Der Rest ist bisher zumindest nicht negativ aufgefallen. Ich freue mich auf die nächsten drei Spins.
Kann ein Mod die Umfrage auf „öffentlich“ korrigieren oder ggf. eine neue, öffentliche Umfrage einbauen, bitte? Mir war beim Erstellen leider nicht aufgefallen, dass die Umfrage anonymisiert ausgeworfen wird.

Neben der mMn hervorragenden „Haupt-CD“ gefallen mir auch „Nothing is real, nothing is unreal“ ( mit U2-mäßigen Gitarren ), „Worm Tamer“ und der Weatherall-Remix von „2013“ von der Bonus-CD ausgesprochen gut!

Yupp. Eine sehr eigene Interpretation von Worm Tamer. Ich habe es erst nicht wiedererkannt.
