Eine Rangfolge kann ich noch nicht nennen, weil ich Caro Emerald erst ganz neu habe. Spontan bin ich davon beeindruckt, ich finde das Konzept, 50er Jazzsounds mit modernen Elementen (Elekronische Beats, Samples, Scratching) zu verbinden, reizvoll und gelungen, die Songs sind herrlich leicht, beschwingt, straff und sommerlich, das könnte also was werden – gerade auch als Kontrapunkt zu all den trendigen, bedeutungschwangeren, melancholisch-depressiven Americana-Vollbartträgern.
Hast Du Dich damit schon beschäftigt?PJ Harvey hat mit „England“ ihre beste Platte seit „Stories from the City“ gemacht. Wenn ich mir die Autoharp wegdenke, die in ihren Armen wie ein Ersatzbaby liegt, könnten es ****1/2 werden – und ein Platz ganz vorn in den Jahrescharts, wenn nicht viel Unvorhergesehenes passiert. Hast Du sie inzwischen?
Joan Osborne schließlich war damals, als sie rauskam, ein großer Hit, und anfangs eine Top5 95. Seitdem hat sie ein bisschen verloren, weil die Songs zum Ende hin schwächer werden. Die ersten Hälfte ist weiterhin großartig; schön vor allem, dass das gern belächelte Hooters-Team (Bazilian, Hyman; Chertoff, Whitman), wie Osborne aus Philadelphia, auch erdig klingen kann. Gut 15 Jahre später tendiert sie insgesamt mehr zu vier als zu viereinhalb Sternen.
