Dank der „Babyblauen Seiten“ ein Kleinod über Crimson entdeckt. Es handelt sich um eine Doktorarbeit über die Improvisationen der Band. Zuerst dachte ich, es geht um die späten Jahre (da das Wort „Construction“ im Titel auftaucht) und um live Versionen. Doch weit gefehlt, es geht um die Jahre bis ca. Mitte der 70er und bezieht sich auch auf viele Studioversionen. Es wird herausgearbeitet, was improvisiert ist und wie sich diese Teile dann in den Gesamtkontext und in das durchkomponierte Material einarbeiten, was nach Meinung des Verfassers „perfekt“ funktioniert (z.B. Starless) und was nicht („Moonchild“). Bin noch nicht durch, habe aber einiges schon gelesen, mir gefällts. Ist auch nicht zu abgehoben geschrieben.

Edit: Finde die Aussage, dass „Starless“ das perfekte Beispiel sei, wie Improvisiertes und Komponiertes optimal zusammenwirken, insofern interessant, da der Song für mich einer der besten Crimson Titel ist. Und „Moonchild“ habe ich auch meistens übersprungen. Natürlich wusste ich nie so recht, warum das so ist. Wenn man dies aber anhand von gelungener oder weniger gelungener Improvisation innerhalb der Komposition erklärt bekommt, dann wird einem einiges klarer.

Und mit Mel Collins, zuletzt auf der „Islands“-Tour ein Bandmitglied, ist auch das erste Mal seit über 40 Jahren ein Saxofonist bei Crimson on stage. Can’t wait.

Bei mir war’s die „Construkction of light“ Tour, das war vor gut 15 Jahren. Ja, das wird mal wieder Zeit. Hab‘ nicht mehr damit gerechnet, ehrlich gesagt, da ist die Freude um so größer :-)!

Was den Sound von „Live in Toronto“ angeht, kann ich Krautathaus nur zustimmen, alleine wie die drei Drummer eingefangn wurden, ist einfach nur beeindruckend.--

Recorded between the dazzling impact of In The Court Of The Crimson in 1969 and the startling reinvention of the band in 1973’s Larks’ Tongues In Aspic, this boxed set documents a crucial period in King Crimson’s history and shows it to be brimming with innovation, experimentation, and boundary-pushing energy.

• 6CDs feature the Islands line-ups early concerts from Germany (new to CD) & the UK (1971).
• 9CDs feature live recordings (several new to CD and/or previously unreleased in any format) from the 1972 US tour, including a new stereo mix of Summit Studios & an expanded Earthbound.
• 3CDs feature auditions for the Islands band & two further, as yet, unidentified concerts from 1972 (all previously unreleased)
