Wo hast du bestellt, wenn ich fragen darf?jpc, da habe ich als erstes gecheckt und die hatten sie gelistet. Ist zwar eine ziemlich teure Angelegenheit, aber ich weiß, dass ich viel Freude mit den Platten haben werde. Ich habe bei Erscheinen Urlaub und es ist Hochsommer (hoffentlich!) – der Versuchung, die Sets an heißen Augustabenden bei eiskaltem Weißbier, Frascati oder dem einen oder anderen Gin-Tonic durchzuhören, konnte ich nicht widerstehen…

Music is like a river, It's supposed to flow and wash away the dust of everyday life. - Art Blakey8 CDs für 45 Euro finde ich angemessen, die Platten sind mir zu teuer auch in Hinblick auf die Qualität der Musik. Die ist schon sehr gut, aber schon auf dem 3 CD Set wird klar, dass man vielleicht nicht noch einen Pickup-Truck voller weiterer Aufnahmen braucht. Aber das kann ja jeder selbst entscheiden.

Ohne Musik ist alles Leben ein Irrtum.Werde mir auch die CD-Version gönnen … die 3-CD-Box lief gerade neulich in Auszügen und ich mag da auf jeden Fall mehr hören.

Tatsächlich hatte ich den Eindruck, dass die „British Jazz Explosion“-Serie vielleicht eingestellt wird, weil es da so lange nichts neues gab. Die Compilation möchte ich haben und die Don Rendell LP auf jeden Fall auch, bei den anderen bin ich mir unsicher.
Die Tubby Hayes Box habe ich durch Deine Empfehlung nach langem Ringen ja irgendwann auch gekauft (es gibt/gab ein sehr gutes Angebot bei Discogs) und die ist wirklich toll.

How does it feel to be one of the beautiful people?Die Don Rendell kenne ich nicht, von den anderen beiden gab es sehr gute CD-Reissues, und beides – besonders aber die Neil Ardley/New Jazz Orchestra für meine Ohren! – sind hervorragende Alben!
Aber das Gerede von „erstmls auf LP und als DL“ ist bollocks, oder? Oder was ist denn das hier, ein Bootleg?

(12 LP / 8 CD, 2021)The breadth of the material here is astounding. It shows the 32-year-old Morgan and the band really stretching out on music largely written by members of the group, like three extended versions each of Maupin’s “Yunjana” or Maybern’s “The Beehive” or Merritt’s “Absolutions.” And, of course, Morgan’s “Speedball,” the band’s theme, opens and closes sets, including a 14-minute version with Jack DeJohnette, who was in the area visiting family and sat in. The best part is that the sound on these recordings delivers — crisp and clean.
So do the liner notes, from McMillan’s insightful contributions to two interviews conducted by Zev Feldman, co-producer of the box sets, with Maupin and Merritt — the two surviving members of the band — with Merritt passing away shortly after the interview. Beyond that there are insights from Blue Note President Don Was, DeJohnette, Wallace Roney, Nicholas Payton, Charles Tolliver, Eddie Henderson, Dave Douglas and more. And the photography by Joel Franklin and Lee Tanner beautifully captures the artist in that moment.
