Jack Wilson – Easterly Winds ***1/2Ich hab mich bei der Bewertung v.a. der Lee Morgan Alben jetzt mal eher mit * zurückgehalten… wenn ich die einzeln höre sind wohl manche besser, aber in der Serie sind’s halt schon ein bisschen viel… und ich mag da meist Mobley lieber als McLean (die ganz tollen Morgan-Alben sind für mich „The Procrastinator“ und „In Search of the New Land“, sowie natürlich „The Sidewinder“. Und auch „The Rumproller“ ist ganz gut! Aber auf denen spielt nun mal McLean nicht mit… „Infinity“ jedoch ist ganz schön, und hätte auch super in die Mosaic-Box gepasst!)
„Evolution“ hab ich noch vor mir (im neulich endlich angeschafften Grachan Moncur III Mosaic Select)!

Kenny Dorham – Matador/Inta Somethin‘ ***1/2Meine relativ tiefen Ratings für „Matador/Inta Somethin'“ und „Lee-Way“ sind eher… realistisch, ich mag beide CDs auch sehr, aber sie haben schon etwas viele Ecken und Kanten und sind irgendwie etwas durchwachsen.

Meine relativ tiefen Ratings für „Matador/Inta Somethin'“ und „Lee-Way“ sind eher… realistisch, ich mag beide CDs auch sehr, aber sie haben schon etwas viele Ecken und Kanten und sind irgendwie etwas durchwachsen.hmmm, also ich weiß jedenfalls, dass ich an dem schwarzen Tag, an dem ich Leeway und Out to Lunch verloren hab, erstere direkt neu bestellt hab (und die zweite bis jetzt noch nicht); soll nicht heißen, dass Leeway besser ist als Out to Lunch… aber drei Sterne sind auch wirklich nicht viel… ich find ganz gut, dass das Album nichts von so einer Trompetenheld-Attitude hat, die mich bei Morgan gelegentlich nervt…
Matador hab ich grad nochmal gehört; klar sind die Blue Note Alben mit Joe Henderson ausgereifter… und klar, diese zwei Alben hätten bei Alfred Lion die Rumpelkammer niemals verlassen dürfen… aber grad deshalb bin ich dankbar, dass es sie gibt, mal ein paar Dorham Alben, die nicht so glatt sind… ich fühl mich ja albern, so einen Begriff wie Gypsy-Flair zu gebrauchen… aber, ach was weiß ich, das ist hier schon grandiose, abgehangene Musik, die toll klingt – auch wenn Dorham und McLean anderswo subtiler waren… ob es jetzt **** oder ****1/2 sind… (link)

Ich stimme dir voll und ganz bei – aber ich finde *** ist ganz ordentlich für solche Momentaufnahmen oder rauher geartete Sachen (ich glaub z.B. Jimmy Smiths meiste Alben würden bei mir auch nicht viel mehr kriegen und doch hör ich sie sehr gerne… bei den Ausnahmen wären bestimmt „The Sermon“ und „House Party“ und v.a. „Groovin‘ at Smalls“, aber schon bei „Cool Blues“ bin ich mir nicht mehr so sicher, obwohl die dank Tina Brooks natürlich äusserst hörenswert ist… aber ein super Album find ich’s eben doch nicht… ich entscheide sozusagen rational gegen meinen Bauch und gebe daher entgegen meinem Geschmack weniger Sterne… ist ja das „nüchterne“ Forum hier, drum halt ich jetzt auch die Klappe :-))
