QUEEN – „Bohemian Rhapsody: The Original Soundtrack“ (w/ LIVE AID Performance)

Inevitably, a soundtrack to the new Queen / Freddie Mercury feature film Bohemian Rhapsody was always going to be released, but Hollywood Records have scored something of a coup, by managing to license the audio of the band’s classic performance at Live Aid and effectively make it a ‘must buy’ for fans.

As well as five tracks performed at the legendary July 1985 concert Bohemian Rhapsody includes other rare live tracks and ‘movie mixes’ of some songs. In case you are wondering this features “all-original Queen recordings and vocals”.

This soundtrack is issued on CD on 19 October although the gatefold 2LP vinyl is an age away, with a release slated for February or March 2019. A special clear cassette edition is also being made available at HMV and independent record shops. The film gets its world premiere in the UK on 23 October.

    R.E.M. – „At The BBC“ (8 CD+DVD)

Universal Music will issue REM at the BBC in October, a massive 8CD+DVD R.E.M. box set that comprises a treasure trove of rare and unreleased live and studio recordings culled from the BBC and band archives.

The box set features in-studio performances such as a John Peel Session (1998), Drivetime and Mark and Lard appearances (2003) and a Radio 1 Live Lounge performance (2008). Amongst the live broadcasts are a show from Nottingham’s Rock City (1984), the 1995 Milton Keynes Monster Tour, the 1999 Glastonbury headline set and an invitation-only 2004 show at London’s St James’s Church. In total there are eight CDs of this kind of audio.

The DVD that completes the set kicks off with a sixty-minute Accelerating Backwards documentary (previously broadcast in the UK but never available commercially) and also offers a complete 1998 Later….With Jools Holland episode dedicated to the band, plus TV appearances on Top of the Pops and more.

A 2LP vinyl (The Best of R.E.M. at the BBC) offers highlights from the big box set. Both are issued on 19 October 2018.

The 3LP coloured-vinyl deluxe edition of the Small Faces 1968 album Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake can now be pre-ordered on Amazon UK.

This 50th anniversary set was announced back in July and for a premium can be bought from the Official Small Faces Shop with a print SIGNED by Kenny Jones.

A reminder that this set includes the mono mix, stereo mix and sessions across three red, white and blue vinyl records. The audio has been newly remastered by Nick Robbins at Soundmastering and cut at half-speed by Matt Colton at Alchemy Studios.

The triple vinyl set comes with a deluxe booklet which includes in-depth sleeve notes by Mark Paytress, interviews, rare photos and memorabilia.

This is released on 5 October 2018.

METALLICA – „…And Justice For All” (u.a.: 11CD/6LP/4DVD Box Set)

…And Justice For All was the first Metallica album to feature bassist Jason Newsted following the death of Cliff Burton in 1986.  The songs, all written by the group’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich with some contributions from other band members, revolve around political and legal injustice.  The album received more critical praise than their previous three efforts and was their first album to crack the Billboard Top 10, peaking at No. 6.  It eventually went 8x Platinum.  The single “One” off the album also marked a couple of firsts for Metallica: their first song to hit the Top 40 (No. 35) and their first music video.  It was also the song they played at their first appearance at Grammys.  “One” was honored with a “Best Metal Performance” Grammy.

The main album itself, available in all of the configurations, has been remastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering in Los Angeles, California.  The deluxe box (limited to one pressing) contains on CD: the original album, a disc of interviews, 2 discs of riffs, jams and demos, a disc of rough mixes, a live show from The Troubadour in West Hollywood from May 24h, 1988 on 2 discs, a live show from the Hammersmith Odeon in London from October 10th, 1988 on two discs and a live show from Long Beach Arena in Long Beach from December 7, 1988 on two discs.  The CDs also contain a few other live cuts and b-sides and radio edits.  On vinyl, the box contains: the original album on 2 LPs with vinyl lacquers by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, a “One” picture disc remastered by Cohen and featuring artwork by Pushead and the group’s performance from the Seattle Coliseum in Seattle from August 29th and 30th, 1989 on 3 LPs.  These performances have been mixed by Greg Fidelman and mastered by Cohen with vinyl lacquers from Bellman.  On the 4 DVDs you will get: footage from Lars Ulrich’s camcorder, various performances of “One” including the music video and Grammys performance, B-roll from “One,” a live show at Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, California from September 15, 1989, a live show at The Stone Balloon in Newark, Delaware from August 7, 1989, a documentary, Masa Ito interviews and raw live footage.  The box set also contains a 120-page hardcover book with rare and never-before-seen photos from Ross Halfin’s vaults and friends and family, along with essays.  In addition, there is a set of four patches, a Pushead print, a tour laminate, lyric sheets and a download card for all the audio.

There is also a 3-CD edition, featuring the original album on Disc One, a selection of the demos and rough mixes on Disc Two and a selection of the live material on Disc Three.  The remastered album is also being released as a standalone CD, a 2-LP 180-gram vinyl, and even as a cassette.  Digital versions will also be available.   If you order from the band’s website, you will receive a digital download of “Dyers Eve” now.  Pre-ordering the deluxe or expanded editions will also get you a download of “Eye of the Beholder (Live at Hammersmith Odeon, London, England – October 10, 1988).  Further downloads are promised to those who preorder from the site.

    MARILLION – „Clutching at Straws“ (DeLuxe-Edition -4CD + BD)

After the successful reissue of Marillion‘s 1985 album Misplaced Childhood in 2017, Parlophone will reissue the British quintet’s fourth studio album Clutching at Straws in November.

Like its predecessor, the album was produced by Chris Kimsey and it delivered three top forty hits (‘Incommunicado’, ‘Sugar Mice’ and ‘Warm Wet Circles’). Clutching At Straws would turn out to be Marillion’s final studio release with original singer Fish.

Clutching at Straws will be reissued as a 4CD+blu-ray deluxe edition and a 5LP vinyl box set. Both include a new stereo remix by Andy Bradfield and Avril Mackintosh (Mackintosh was the original mixing engineer for producer Chris Kimsey in Advision studios back in 1987) and a concert recording of the band performing at the Edinburgh Playhouse in December ’87. Some of these live performance have appeared before, on The Thieving Magpie live album, although it should be noted that this is a new mix for 2018 by Michael Hunter.

The 4CD+blu-ray edition adds a disc of demos, most of which were issued on the 1999 two-CD deluxe, although there are four ‘new’ ones are added here (‘Hotel Hobbies/Warm Wet Circles’, ‘Just For The Record’, ‘Torch Song’ and ‘Slàinte Mhath’).

The blu-ray features the stereo remix and a 5.1 mix although not by Steven Wilson this time, but by Bradfield and Mackintosh, again. Fish describes the new surround mix as “truly wonderful”. As a bonus the blu-ray gives you the original mix of the album in stereo and a a few extra mixes. Video content includes a new 60 minute documentary featuring Mick Wall interviewing the band and discussing the album, plus promo films for the three singles.

    ROLLING STONES – „Voodoo Lounge Uncut“ (DVD, BD, 2CD+DVD, 2CD+BD, 3LP)

London, September 25 – The Rolling Stones today announced release details of an archive concert film, Voodoo Lounge Uncut. Filmed in Miami on the world tour supporting the Voodoo Lounge album, this restored, remixed and remastered film contains ten previously unreleased performances. Featuring guest appearances from Sheryl Crow, Robert Cray and Bo Diddley, this new version also includes five bonus performances on all visual formats.

It’s in the cauldron of a Rolling Stones gig that the sheer heft of their legacy truly knocks you sideways, and soon the Miami crowd were roaring in appreciation as Jagger bounded on stage to the opener Not Fade Away. Later in the proceedings, their B-stage excursion brilliantly set them up close with fans who suddenly realised that they had the best tickets in the house during an acoustic, three-song mini-set – which spoke volumes about the band’s ability to strip everything back to its essential core.

Filmed on November 25th 1994 at Miami’s Joe Robbie stadium, the show’s stunningly futuristic staging was way ahead of its time and set a new high watermark in production for stadium shows through the rest of the decade, helping it become the biggest grossing tour ever at that point. This new version, which has been recut and restored from the original rushes and includes newly remixed and remastered audio, reinstates the ten tracks cut from the original video release in the 1990s back in their original running order here for the first time.

Bonus features for visual formats include five tracks from an earlier show at Giants Stadium, New Jersey, that were not performed in Miami, making this the definitive record of The Rolling Stones on the road in the mid-nineties.

Sehr schön. Habe mich immer gefragt, warum diese Show out of print ist.

Dafür einiges, was es eher selten gibt.
