Danke.

Dumm gelaufen.

MOODY BLUES – „Days Of Future Passed“ (50th Anniversary Deluxe set)

Universal Music are to put out a 50th anniversary deluxe edition of the The Moody Blues‘ 1967 album Days Of Future Passed.

The band’s second album was an orchestral rock concept album, and features their famous single, Nights In White Satin. It will be reissued as a three disc, 2CD+DVD set and one of the big selling point is the reversion to the very original 1967 stereo mix which was superseded in 1972 due to damage on the original master tape. All CD reissues have used this mix and not the ’67 original. Apparently, ‘technology’ has allowed the repair of the audio from the original tapes and so this original stereo mix gets its first CD release on this anniversary set. The first CD includes this and nine bonus tracks.

The second CD offers alternate versions and outtakes. In total this package has 33 audio tracks, which is seven more than the previous SACD/CD set.

The DVD element includes a 5.1 surround sound mix derived from the original 1972 Quad mix. Presumably, this is the same surround mix that was included on the now out-of-print 2006 SACD edition of this album. The original Quad mix was by Tony Clarke and Justin Hayward and John Lodge enhanced it for the 5.1 mix. This disc includes a hi-res stereo version and previously unreleased video footage of the band performing three tracks from the album at MIDEM on 24th January 1968, eight weeks after its release.

You do wonder why they haven’t opted for a blu-ray audio here, to allow for lossless 5.1 surround mix. Likely to be a budget-related issue since DVDs are cheaper to author and manufacture. Regardless, it’s certainly much cheaper than tracking down the previous SACD version.

This 2CD/DVD set will be issued on 17 November 2017.

    INXS – „Kick30“ (3CD+BD)

The Australian rockers’ sixth album was the one that propelled the group to their greatest international success, particularly in America, where some six million copies were sold and four singles (“Need You Tonight,” “Devil Inside,” “New Sensation” and “Never Tear Us Apart”) all reached the Top 10 of Billboard‘s Hot 100. And that success has parlayed itself into not one, not two, but three previous reissues: a 2002 expanded disc from Rhino Records (manager of the band’s catalogue in America) with four unreleased demos and outtakes; a 2004 Europe-only double disc set from Mercury (the band’s U.K. label) that featured a good deal of the Kick-era B-sides and remixes; and a 2012 25th anniversary deluxe edition that combined all that material with a some extra tunes (including two unreleased mixes) as well as a DVD.

So what makes this different? On the audio side, the set’s three CDs include everything from the last box set edition in virtually the same order–and the third disc adds another seven tracks: three mixes or edits of “Need You Tonight” (including a remix by Ben Liebrand that was released as a U.K. 12″ single and a mix from 1994–one of the only non-contemporaneous tracks on the set), a rare promo-only U.K. edit of “Devil Inside,” the longer 12″ version of B-side “Different World,” a U.S.-only B-side mix of opening track “Guns In the Sky” and a live cut of “Shine Like It Does” from the band’s American tour.

For collectors and hardcore fans, though, the accompanying Blu-ray is the real prize: it includes a new Dolby Atmos mix of the album, done at Abbey Road by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, as well as all seven original music videos from the album (plus a new promo for the title track). So in the audiovisual department, it’s only missing the material from the Kick 25 DVD.

Available November 2, the set is packed in a DVD-size “fan deluxe” package including 48 pages of liner notes and photos. It’s a perfectly timed set for the group–not only 30 years since the album’s release, but 40 years since the band started and 20 since the unfortunate end of a significant chapter following the death of frontman Michael Hutchence.

    Disc 1: Original remastered album (released as WEA 255080 (AUS)/Atlantic 81796 (U.S.), 1987)

    EAGLES – „Hotel California“ (40th Anniversary Edition)

Late next month Warner Music will issue a 40th anniversary super deluxe edition of the Eagles‘ fifth studio album, Hotel California.

The package will be a three disc set consisting of a remastered version of the original album, a live disc with 10 previously unreleased live tracks (from the 20-22 October ’76 gigs at the Los Angeles Forum) and a blu-ray audio with hi-res stereo and 5.1 mixes of the album.

The box set is not dissimilar to the Led Zeppelin super deluxe editions (although no vinyl) and comes in a ‘Solander’ box. As well as the audio/video content described, will include a 44-page hardcover book, a 24-page replica tour book (11″ x 11″) and three posters (11″ x 22″): Norman Seef photograph, Pete Frame ‘Family Tree’ and Tour Poster).

A two-CD deluxe edition pairs the remastered album with the live CD and, for what it’s worth, there’s also a one CD remaster.

Hotel California 40th anniversary reissues will be released on 24 November 2017.

Danke an Japan! :good:

    RUSH – „A Farewell To Kings“ (40th Anniversary Edition – 3CD / 4LP / 3CD+4LP+1BD)

Rush are issuing a deluxe album box set for their fifth studio album, 1977’s A Farewell To Kings, this winter.

In stores December 1, the 40th anniversary edition of this album–the first of the Canadian prog legends’ discography to go gold in the United States–will be paired with a full concert from 1978, remixed from the original multitracks by original album producer Terry Brown and significantly expanded from its original release as part of the live set Different Stages in 1998. Fans can now hear the full suite from 2112 in this set, as well as a version of early radio staple “Closer To The Heart.” Additional bonus material includes four covers of Farewell tunes by prog groups like Dream Theater and Big Wreck, plus an outtake of spacey sound effects, the humorously titled “Cygnus X-2 Eh.”

All this audio material will be available as a 3CD or 4LP set; for the hardcore Rush fans, a super deluxe box will combine both of those sets and add a Blu-ray disc featuring a high-resolution version of the album in stereo plus a new 5.1 surround remix by acclaimed engineer Steven Wilson, as well as three newly restored music videos. Extras in the box include lithographs and a turntable mat with original artwork by Hugh Syme, a replica of the band’s 1978 tour program, and a “unique King’s Ring,” complete with velvet pouch and neck chain.

FLEETWOOD MAC – „Fleetwood Mac“ (Super Deluxe Edition) [19.01.2018]

Fleetwood Mac‘s 1975 eponymous album (that features the current line-up) will be reissued as a five-disc super deluxe edition in January next year.

The original album is newly remastered and features on CD and vinyl LP in the box set. The CD also includes the original single mixes of Over My Head, Rhiannon, Say You Love Me and Blue Letter.

Like previous sets there’s plenty of unreleased outtakes and CD 2 in the super deluxe features a completely alternate version of the album (none of it ever released before), along with a handful of live tracks and a couple of jam/instrumentals.

The third CD features 14 live tracks (all previously unreleased) while disc four is a DVD which features a 5.1 surround sound mix of Fleetwood Mac, a hi-res stereo version of the album and those four single versions.

Completing the set is the LP version of the original album pressed on 180-gram vinyl. The packaging sounds consistent with what was issued for previous albums (Rumours, Tusk, Mirage and Tango In The Night) since this comes in a 12″ x 12″ embossed sleeve with in-depth sleeve notes and new interviews with all the band members.

This five-disc Fleetwood Mac box set will be released on 19 January from Warner Bros. Records. A two-CD expanded edition featuring the first two discs in the box will also be issued
