THE SMITHS – „The Queen is Dead“ (DeLuxe Edition – 3CD+DVD / 5LP)
Warners will issue a four-disc deluxe edition of The Smiths‘ 1986 album The Queen Is Dead in October this year.
The album is generally considered to be the band’s best work (although for this writer Strangeways, Here We Come gives it a good run for its money) and features the classic There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (only a single in France at the time, fact fans).There are three physical formats for this release – which as you will note has updated artwork – a 3CD+DVD deluxe includes the remastered album, a bonus CD of demos, alternates and b-sides, a further CD: Live In Boston (recorded at the Great Woods Center For The Performing Arts on August 5, 1986) and a DVD featuring the 2017 master of the album in 96kHz / 24-bit PCM stereo. The DVD also includes The Queen Is Dead – A Film By Derek Jarman.

INTERPOL – „Our Love to Admire“ (10th Anniversary Edition)
While Interpol have dutifully supported the 15th anniversary of their debut album Turn On the Bright Lights (which was reissued for its 10th anniversary) with a tour, they’re also going to revisit their third album and major label debut, Our Love to Admire, with a 10th anniversary package.
Released in the summer of 2007, Our Love to Admire found the New York City band moving from Matador to Capitol and expanding their sonic palette. “We had keyboards on from the start which we’ve never done before,” guitarist Daniel Kessler told NME at the time. “It’s like a fifth member. There’s a lot more texture, and interesting sounds, there’s definitely progression and growth.” Preceded by the songs “The Heinrich Maneuver” and “Pioneer to the Falls,” Our Love to Admire became the band’s highest-charting album in either the U.S. or the U.K., reaching Nos. 4 and 2, respectively.
The 10th anniversary edition, available August 18, pairs the original album on CD or 2LP with a bonus DVD featuring the band’s set at The Astoria in London on July 2, 2007–eight days before the album hit stores. Portions of this concert have been released, on both a CD/DVD edition of the album released outside the U.S. as well as the 2007 Live EP–but never in full. (A 10th anniversary 2LP pressing with custom inner sleeves and without the DVD will also be available.) Full specs are available just a few scrolls down.

HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS – „Collected“
Fans looking for a wildly thorough compilation for pop-rock band par excellence Huey Lewis & The News–or those hunting for rarities in the wake of their 30th anniversary edition of Sports that may have left fans wanting–have got some unlikely good (pardon the pun) news coming out of Europe.
An entry on the San Francisco bar band in Universal Music’s triple-disc Collected series looks to be not only a deep dive into the band’s hits and favorites from their debut album in 1980 to the release of 2010’s Stax covers album Soulsville, but a treasure chest full of rare mixes and hard-to-find tracks, including nine versions making their CD debuts.
The set covers the band’s meteoric rise from New Wave-tinged pub rockers to dominant rock hitmakers. Between 1982 and 1988, The News racked up a dozen Top 10 hits in America, including the chart-toppers “The Power of Love” (from the blockbuster film Back to the Future), “Stuck with You” and “Jacob’s Ladder.” But Collected goes even further, covering the group’s mix of covers and originals in the ’90s and ’00s, not to mention the silly, self-effacing theme to the stoner comedy Pineapple Express in 2006.
And the final disc racks up 17 rare and uncompiled tracks: there’s two Mutt Lange-produced songs from Clover, the pre-News group that included Lewis on harmonica and keyboardist Sean Hopper (and famously, sans Lewis, backed Elvis Costello on his debut album My Aim Is True in 1977), and soundtrack and compilation appearances by Lewis on his own. CD debuts on this disc include the sole single sides by American Express, which featured Lewis, Hopper, guitarist Johnny Colla, bassist Mario Cipollina and drummer Bill Gibson–5/6 of the classic News (lead guitarist Chris Hayes would complete the lineup)–and 12″ dance mixes of hits “I Want a New Drug,” “Heart and Soul,” “The Power of Love” and “Hip to Be Square.”
The band promises worldwide availability ahead of the set’s August 29 release date.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS – „Core“ (25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)
On September 29, Atlantic Records will reissue Core as a 25th Anniversary single CD, a 2CD Deluxe Edition, DD, and a massive Super Box with 4CD/DVD/LP to its heft. the original album is newly remastered for this reissue. Additionally, the sets will be peppered with a collection of B-sides, demos, live tracks, and even new versions of music (“Creep” finds itself redone here).
For the single CD, you get the original album remastered. The 2CD set provides a nice collection of fourteen bonus tracks. The Box offers the content of the 2CD set as well as a CD with live shows from two venues (Reading Festival – 08/27/93; Castaic Lake Amphitheatre – 07/02/93), and a CD of seven tracks from their 11/17/93 session of MTV Unplugged. The DVD offers the entire album mixed in 5.1 Surround, and 96kHz/24-bit Stereo. the DVD inclusion also offers four videos (“Plush”, “Sex Type Thing”, “Wicked”, “Creep”). The LP features the remastered version of Core in its entirety over two sides.
The 4CD/DVD/LP Super Deluxe 25th Anniversary Set will also provide a 12″x 12″-sized hardbound book filled with photos, credits, and notes. This edition will be limited to only 15,000 copies.

SPANDAU BALLET – „Through The Barricades“ (DeLuxeEdition CD+DVD)
Sony Legacy will issue a two-disc deluxe edition of Spandau Ballet‘s 1986 album Through The Barricades in September.
After a split with Chrysalis, the album was the band’s first on the CBS/Epic and their fifth overall. It had been almost two and a half years since Parade and their old label had wasted no time in issuing two greatest hits sets The Singles Collection and The Twelve Inch Mixes, in 1985 and 1986 respectively.
With an extensive world tour planned, the album saw Gary Kemp and bandmates adopt a harder edged, ‘rockier’ approach and to facilitate this, they moved on from the Jolley & Swain production team, that had successfully delivered the pop of True and Parade, to employing the services of engineer and Art of Noise member Gary Langan to produce Through The Barricades.
It’s probably fair to say that more was expected, commercially, of ‘comeback’ single Fight For Ourselves (the first track recorded for the album) which stalled at number 15 in the UK charts, but the album delivered one bona fide big hit single with the title track (#6 in Nov ’86) which while not rivalling True and Gold in the public’s affections, is still an anthemic signature tune, of sorts. How Many Lies was a minor hit in 1987.
In terms of this reissue, it’s a CD+DVD package. The album has been newly remastered (at Air Studios in Hampstead) by Gary Langan and includes seven bonus tracks. These comprise the 12-inch versions of all the singles including the rare extension of Cross The Line which was only issued in Spain. A previously unreleased version of Fight For Ourselves B-side Fight… The Heartache also features, along with a recently unearthed demo of the title track.
The DVD element includes the promo videos and an hour-long documentary created especially for this release. Through The Barricades: Remastered / Revisited tells the story of the album from the new material’s first outing at Live Aid to rehearsing in Ireland and through to the band recording in France and Germany before undertaking a yearlong tour in support of the album. The film features previously unseen home movies as well as a wealth of rare, unseen and newly recorded footage.
Gary Kemp told SDE “I feel that this was the era that the band was really in its pomp. This was our biggest tour and when we were at our best – I wanted to really capture that whole era as much as we could, in terms of getting as many videos and films from the time, that hadn’t been used in the Soul Boys Of The Western World film, on the reissue.”
Specifically referencing the remastering, Kemp added “We got the first generation masters digitised and and without any doubt, this sounds SO much better than the original CD. We’ve got more ‘air’ into the vinyl and certainly more bottom end”.
The vinyl comes with a replica of the original poster and a limited red vinyl edition is available exclusively from the Spandau store. The CD+DVD package includes notes by Daryl Easlea featuring new interviews with band members, previously unseen photographs and outtakes from the album photo shoot.
Through The Barricades deluxe edition will be issued on 22 September 2017.

Ich weiß nicht, ob die Gruppe, die Anfang der Achtziger im Fahrwasser von SIMPLE MINDS bekannt geworden ist, hier auch anderen noch etwas sagt … ich bin ein Fan der Band, gerade ihrer ersten Alben.
CAROLINE wird erfreulicherweise nun Anfang September die Alben „Difficult Shapes And Passive Rhythms …“ (2CD), „Working With Fire And Steel“ (3CD) und „Flaunt The Imperfection“ (2CD) als DeLuxe-Editions veröffentlichen.

ALAN PARSONS PROJECT – „Eye In The Sky“ (35th Anniversary Edition)
In 1982, the Alan Parsons Project released its last huge selling album. In a time of changing musical styles in effect since the latter ’70s, Alan Parsons had managed to capture the the fancy of an audience. The album was Eye In The Sky. It achieved platinum status in the US and Canada. The album contained the singles, “Eye In The Sky”, and “Sirius”. “Sirius” was used as the announcement music for the Michael Jordan-led Bulls, and could be heard in other places as well. With 2017 being the album’s 35th Anniversary, Legacy will release a multi-disc Box of Eye In The Sky with some interesting collected pieces.

THE JAM – „1977“ (4CD+DVD)
Universal Music will in October issue The Jam / 1977, a new 40th anniversary, five-disc box set celebrating the busy debut year of The Jam, when Paul Weller, Rick Buckler Bruce Foxton and delivered two albums and three hit singles.
This forthcoming collection features remastered versions of both In The City and This Is The Modern World, and despite a plethora of Jam box sets in the last five or six years the label have dug out six previously unreleased demos from the first album which feature on the second CD alongside five further demos which have been issued before.CD four is a live disc and includes a previously unreleased concert (15 tracks) from the ‘Nashville’ recorded on 10 September 1977. This is paired with two John Peel sessions from the same year.
Finally the fifth disc – a DVD – features TV appearances and promo videos.
This discs in this box set are packaged in mini-LP vinyl replica wallets with printed inner bags. In The City uses the US version of the inner sleeve and This Is The Modern World features an alternate Gered Markowitz cover image. The box is a rigid card, lift-off lid variety and comes with a 144-page book, featuring new liner notes, period photos etc. It also comes with five postcards.
The Jam / 1977 will be released on 20 October 2017

This five-disc, 86-track collection from the Brunswick, Reaction, Track and Polydor labels of course includes all and every hit, along with all the B-sides, many on CD for the first time.The CDs come in separate wallets, and are housed in the familiar lift-off-lid style box that Universal use regularly (see the just announced Jam box).
