Live habe ich die Band nie gesehen, ich habe sie erst vor ein paar Jahren ‚entdeckt‘. Der Name war mir immer geläufig, aber bewusst gehört hatte hatte ich lange Zeit nichts von der Band.
BÖC sind hingegen so gar nicht meine Baustelle… ;)

FAIRPORT CONVENTION – „Come All Ye – The First 10 Years“ (7 CDs) [VÖ: 28.07.2017]

7CD box set celebrating the first 10 years of Fairport Convention’s career. Includes their debut album on Polydor, all of their seminal albums on Island Records and the final 3 albums on the Vertigo label. Features key album tracks, non-album singles, radio sessions and previously unreleased live recordings from all of the classic line-ups.

Compiled by Andrew Batt, the curator of the very successful show, ‘The Lady – A Tribute To Sandy Denny’, which toured the UK in 2012, this collection celebrates Fairport’s first 10 years, beginning with their eponymous debut for Polydor in 1968, through all of their seminal albums for Island Records and finishing with tracks from their two albums for Vertigo, The Bonny Bunch of Roses and Tippers Tales.

Of the 121 tracks featured here, 55 are previously unreleased. Highlights include key tracks from all of their classic albums, single B-sides, BBC Radio Sessions, 5 songs from the French TV programme, ‘Pop 2’ (December 1970), 5 songs from the Television show, ‘The Man They Couldn’t Hang’ (1971) and the audio for an entire concert at The Fairfield Halls, Croydon (December 16th 1973) plus 2 songs recorded live for the Scottish Television programme, ‘Anne Lorne Gillies – The World of Music’ (1976).

 

The set comes complete with liner notes by respected English writer, Patrick Humphries, author of many highly regarded books including, ‘Nick Drake – The Biography’ ( Bloomsbury 1998 ), ‘Richard Thompson – The Biography’ ( Music Sales Ltd 1997 ) and ‘The Many Lives of Tom Waites’ (Omnibus Press 1989).

Formed in London in 1967, Fairport Convention are the hardy perennials of the British Folk scene and are credited with inventing the genre known as Folk Rock on the release of their influential album Liege and Lief in 1969. Over the years they have enjoyed a shifting line-up, which has helped to launch the successful solo careers of founder members Richard Thompson, Judy Dyble, Ashely Hutchings and Simon Nicol and subsequently the careers of Sandy Denny, Dave Swarbrick and Dave Pegg.

DEF LEPPARD – „HYSTERIA“ (Super Deluxe Edition) (5CD + 2DVD)

This August, Universal Music will release a 30th anniversary reissue of Def Leppard‘s 1987 album Hysteria, across multiple formats, including a seven-disc super deluxe edition box set.

The album has sold 25 million copies worldwide to date and this new super deluxe offers a wealth of extra material. The remastered album (mastering handled by the band’s long-serving sound engineer Ronan McHugh) comes with two CDs of radio edits and B-sides, along with two further CDs which feature the audio from the 1989 video release In The Round, In Your Face.

Two DVDs accompany this audio, the first of which offers the BBC Rock Of Ages documentary, promo videos and TV appearances. The the second delivers the 2002 Classic Albums documentary.

The box set comes with four books: a history of the album written by journalist Paul Elliott, a complete discography of all the releases from around the world, a photo-book of Ross Halfin images and a facsimile of the original tour programme.

A three-CD deluxe edition combines the album with the two In The Round, In Your Face discs and this reissue is also available as a 2LP vinyl set.

BLANCMANGE – „The Blanc Tapes“ (9 CD)

The Blanc Tapes is a new Blancmange nine-CD box set that contains expanded three-disc editions of the albums Happy Families, Mange Tout and Believe You Me – all of which contain previously unreleased demos, remixes and BBC sessions.

The expanded version of 1982’s Happy Families within this box, contains 12-inch mixes and a non-album B-side, as well as nine previously unreleased demos and rehearsals from Neil Arthur’s own collection. The third disc for this album contains two previously unreleased BBC Radio 1 sessions (featuring two otherwise unrecorded songs) and a BBC live concert.

Mange Tout (from 1984) features the hits Don’t Tell Me and their version of ABBA‘s The Day Before You Came, which was a bigger hit than the original! Again, here we have 12-inch mixes, B-sides, five previously unreleased demos and rehearsals from Neil Arthur’s own collection (featuring two otherwise unrecorded songs) and more BBC sessions and live concerts.

Believe You Me was issued in 1985 and produced by Stewart Levine and follows the pattern of the other expanded versions with remixes, demos and BBC sessions and live concert audio.

This special Blanc Tapes package, places each three-CD media book editions (also available separately) in an outer rigid slipcase. Each of these editions features notes by Neil Arthur, plus photos and lyrics.

The Amazon Exclusive Edition (UK only) offers a print signed by Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe. There are only 500 of these available – once sold out, that’s it.

To be clear, there is no non-signed box, but you can buy the three media book expanded sets separately, if you wish. However, as things stand there is no price advantage for doing so, so there’s no logic in *not* getting a them with the outer ‘Blanc Tapes’ slipcase and signed print!
