BLACK SABBATH – „Paranoid“ (Super Deluxe Edition, 4CD) [VÖ: 11.November 2016]

On November 11, Rhino will reissue Paranoid in a 4CD Box Super Deluxe Edition that will also contain a book. Here’s what we know about the upcoming classic set:

The album will not feature new remastering but will offer the 2012 remaster of the album available in a Deluxe Edition released that year. In addition to that, the rare Quad mix of Paranoid will be included as a fold down to Stereo. To round out the four CDs, there will be two concerts made available from the Paranoid years. One will be an 7 performance track set from August 31, 1970 performed at the Casino de Montreux in Montreux, Switzerland. The other CD will feature a 9 performance track set from Brussels in 1970.

The hardbound book is a high point and will include extensive liner notes and new interviews with all of the original members. Plus, there will be more photos, detailed credits, and memorabilia, all associated with the release of one of Rock’s most influential Heavy Metal albums. Also included will be a poster, and a cool replica of the tour program from the Paranoid tours.

THE WHO – „My Generation“ (SuperDeluxeEdition, 5CDs) [VÖ 18.November 2016]

First Info:

On November 18, in the UK for now, there will be a 5-disc Super Deluxe Edition of the classic 1965 Who set, My Generation. Currently, there is no insider info to be had as of yet. The general assumption is that the set will contain the original Mono mix, a 2014 Stereo remix, along with a collection of demos and singles, b-sides, etc, etc. And while five CDs seem a bit much, it will be interesting to see just what will be in the box.

Quadrofonie war eine Aufteilung auf 4 Spuren: vorne links und rechts und hinten links und rechts. „Quad Mix Folded Down To Stereo“ bedeutet hier, dass jeweils die beiden linken (vorne und hinten) und rechten (vorne und hinten) Spuren zusammengefasst werden, so dass sich hieraus eine normale Stereo Spur ergibt. M. E. ist das aber totaler Blödsinn!

Das muss nicht totaler Blödsinn sein, das hängt ganz davon ab, ob die Aufnahmen für den Quadro Mix neu eingespielt wurden, dann hat man nämlich (meist minmal) unterschiedliche Versionen der Songs (das hat man zB bei Deep Purple – Machine Head). Ob das bei Sabbath so war, weiss ich leider nicht, aber zu einem fairen Preis, könnte ich hier schwach werden, mal auf Sound Samples der Live Scheiben warten…

„Since CDs cannot deliver audio in a surround sound format, this rare quad mix is ‘folded down’ to stereo. It will still sound different to the master version, but the whole point of quad mixes was to deliver a surround sound experience via four channels – something this CD won’t do. Truly perverse.“

@ Wolfgang: ist aber auch (noch) ein happiger Preis (Anm.: bei jpc derzeit 109,99 EUR) , zumal mich zumindest hier lediglich die CDs interessieren. Ist in meinen Augen leider ein weiteres Beispiel für aufgebauschte Boxsets, in die man alle möglichen Tonträger packt (Anm.: bez. der Bildträger fehlt hier eine BD), somit bescheuerterweise auch wieder ‚mal gleichzeitig LP und CD.

So läuft das heutzutage leider. Die Altfans werden auf jede mögliche Art zum Kauf animiert. Muss jeder für sich entscheiden. Am schlimmsten finde ich die „Pink Floyd“ Box. Für den irrsinnigen Preis bekommt man nicht genug Gegenleistung, da hört der Spaß auf.

The 10 discs will contain tracks recorded from 1964 to 1969, bringing together the first 8 albums in mono, including ‚Live At Kelvin Hall‘. STEVIE NICKS – „Bella Donna“ und „The Wild Heart“ (DeLuxeEditions)

Stevie Nicks is launching her 24 Karat Gold tour later month, named for her acclaimed 2014 studio album consisting of new recordings of previously unheard compositions. Now, Nicks is looking back once more with two more 24-karat gold Deluxe Editions of her first two solo albums, Bella Donna and The Wild Heart. Both releases arrive from Rhino on November 4, along with remastered, stand-alone editions of the original albums on LP, CD and DD.

1981’s solo debut Bella Donna will be released as a 3-CD set. Produced by Jimmy Iovine, the album yielded such immortal Nicks tracks as “Edge of Seventeen” and two duets: “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and “Leather and Lace” with Don Henley. Disc Two of the upcoming set has nine previously unreleased cuts (including alternate versions of “Edge of Seventeen,” “Leather and Lace,” and the title song) plus Nicks’ soundtrack performances of “Blue Lamp” from Heavy Metal and “Sleeping Angel” from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The third disc premieres a 1981 concert featuring selections from Bella Donna alongside Fleetwood Mac favorites “Sara” and “Rhiannon.”

Following the 1982 release of Fleetwood Mac’s Mirage (recently reissued across multiple formats by Rhino – read our review here!), Nicks returned to her solo career with 1983’s The Wild Heart. The double-platinum smash is being reissued as a 2-CD set. It included such favorites as “Stand Back,” “Nightbird” and “I Will Run To You,” which reunited the artist with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The 9-track bonus disc has seven previously unreleased cuts including demos and outtakes, plus the “Stand Back” B-side “Garbo” and Nicks’ recording of “Violet and Blue” from the Against All Odds soundtrack.

“I’ve had so much fun reliving the making of Bella Donna and The Wild Heart while working on the liner notes and listening to all of the alternate versions and demo takes,” Nicks commented in the original press release. “The liner notes are so much more than liner notes. They are like a little novel. I tried to make whoever reads this feel like they were there. I think…I succeeded….”

These two highly-anticipated reissues arrive from Rhino on November 4.
