‘Sacrifice’ is a Prog classic. A controversial release in its day, much discussed in rock circles. Black Widow proved a surprisingly sophisticated and experimental group when they burst on the UK scene in the early Seventies. While often compared to Black Sabbath, the group went beyond heavy metal, utilising Hammond organ, flute, sax and clarinet in their line-up, while playing powerful, imaginative arrangements. ‘Sacrifice’ was their debut album, now hailed as a landmark progressive rock classic, attracting much media attention on release in 1970, due to its controversial black magic themes. Now available on Repertoire, this is the definitive version of ‘Sacrifice’, presented in a deluxe set in digipak format, with CD liner notes by highly respected heavy rock journalist and broadcaster Malcolm Dome, including an interviews with Black Widow’s Clive Jones, Geoff Griffiths and Kip Trevor telling their fascinating story of the band and this album. Soundtracks remastered by Black Widow’s Geoff Griffith. Expertly restored film. Quotes from the band. The most collectable and definitive set on the market!
DISC 1: Remastered CD of the original classic 1970 ‘Sacrifice’ album. Plus bonus track – the single version of ‘Come To The Sabbat’.
DISC 2: Remastered CD of the previously unreleased version of ‘Sacrifice’, with new atmospheric, dramatic track interludes by Black Widow’s Clive Jones and Geoff Griffiths.
DISC 3: Bonus DVD of the newly restored and remastered film of German TV’s Beat Club production: ‘DEMONS OF THE NIGHT GATHER TO SEE BLACK WIDOW – LIVE’ featuring a powerful theatrical ‘live’ band performance of the songs from the ‘Sacrifice’ album.

OK, to expand on what I said….I have some inside info I can share!
Take this with a grain of salt as things could change from now until release time.
Progress on the box set is ongoing. There should be an announcement with more details on the official Rory website this summer as things shape up. Release is hoped for in the Fall.
Audio will be two CDs each from Cork, Dublin, and Belfast, using original setlist running orders. Cork is taken from the multi-tracks, so that one should sound great. Dublin and Belfast are from soundboards recorded at the mixing desk the night of the shows, so kind of look at those as „official-bootleg“ sound and you should not be disappointed.
There will also be a CD of soundcheck and post-show jamming (from Cork).
The „Irish Tour“ film may also be included depending on licensing. No mention of that being expanded with additional footage. That would certainly be nice but don’t count on that…who knows though.
Think I will go back and listen again to the 1979 live show from the Notes From San Francisco release to get psyched!

Live in Europe October/November 1973, March/April, 1974 Studio Recordings, London, England, January 1974Few bands of the era offered as much variety in material from night to night. King Crimson’s propensity for improvisation & fondness for playing its newest material – often unreleased on record at the time of the concerts – is legendary. Fewer bands still, whether by accident or design, recorded so many of their live shows. Starless offers an in depth overview of one of the era’s most significant bands in its most celebrated live line-up.Autumn 1973: As King Crimson’s second lengthy US tour of that year was coming to a close, a short series of UK concerts for the end of October, followed by a more extensive European tour in November was already planned. Three of these concerts Glasgow, Zurich & Amsterdam were recorded as full multi-track recordings, with material from the Amsterdam show being used as core material for the January 1974 recording of Starless & Bible Black. From mid-March to the start of April, the band was on the road in Europe again, promoting the album with their final European concerts of the decade, prior to undertaking a further US tour. A number of these concerts were recorded on stereo reel to reel machines, fed directly from the signal as sent to the PA system on the night of the performance. These soundboards are often referred to as “The Blue Tapes”, named after the outer colour of the original tape boxes & are especially valued for both the quality of recording & performance. This boxed set presents eighteen CDs of live concert performances, seven of them mixed from the 1973 multi-track tapes and a further eleven presenting the complete run of “The Blue Tapes” for the first time. CDs of the ORTF Paris TV performance & the 2011 stereo mix of Starless & Bible Black also feature. Two DVD-A discs & two Blu-Ray discs contain concert & studio recordings in stereo, quadraphonic & full 5.1 surround sound – all presented in high-resolution audio.
