Werbung„Following the heady commercial success of its predecessor ‚Kilimanjiro‘, The Teardrop Explodes‘ second album was recorded following a turbulent period in the band’s career. involving line-up changes and a fraught, drug-fuelled American tour. For ‚Wilder‘, the group’s leader and principal songwriter Julian Cope expanded his songwriting by incorporating a myriad of experimental approaches. As a result ‚Wilder‘ is seen by many to be the more artistically successful of the band’s two official studio albums. The exuberant ‚Passionate Friend‘ was the lead-off single from the sessions, followed by the bold, brass-led ‚Colours Fly Away‘ and the elegaic ‚Tiny Children‘, the latter of which many consider to be The Teardrops‘ crowning glory.
‚Wilder‘ was a more experiemntal album than ‚Kilimanjiro‘ too and featured a far greater use of synthesizer arrangements and loop experiments, predominantly at the instigation of keyboard player David Balfe (who acted as Cope’s principal creative foil in the studio). Cope had mostly abandoned his role as group bass player and shared some of the guitarist role with Troy Tate, as well as dabbling in piano and organ.
Some tracks featured a full group sound as featured on Kilimanjaro (most notably „Passionate Friend“, The album broke away from the West Coast/beat group sound of the debut as well as having a noticeably more downbeat and troubled atmosphere.
This new release contains all the relevant B-sides compiled by Julian Cope to run like a album, as well as the BBC radio session that were done at the time. David Balfe and Publicist Mick Houghton have written the sleeve notes to make this release along essential for any fans of the band“Tracks:

Even the name of The Clash was aggressive. With their 1977 debut album, Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Terry Chimes (soon to depart the band) made a fast and furious attack on rock complacency. Punk, after all, was the music heard ‘round the world when it re-lit a fire in the belly of rock-and-roll that had lain dormant in an era of increasingly complex, often progressive rock (sans the roll) in the 1970s. And at the vanguard of that initial wave of English punk was, inevitably, The Clash. Yet the punk band’s sound was musically diverse, incorporating reggae, ska, funk, rap and even “traditional” rock-and-roll and rockabilly into its heady stylistic brew. Though the band broke up in 1986 after suffering a series of personnel changes, the music of The Clash reverberates, and come September 10, its small catalogue and significant legacy will be celebrated by Sony with a variety of releases. The crown jewel is Sound System, a boom box-shaped box set collecting remastered editions of The Clash’s studio albums on eight CDs plus three CDs of demos, non-LP singles, B -sides and rarities and a DVD with music videos and previously unseen footage. Joining Sound System will be a new 2-CD or 3-LP compilation The Clash Hits Back, and an 8-CD or 8-LP box set with only the studio albums, simply titled The Clash 5-Studio Album Set.
Sound System contains the following studio albums, all in remastered editions overseen by The Clash with engineer Tim Young:
1.The Clash (1977)
2.Give ‘Em Enough Rope (1978)
3.London Calling (1979, 2 CDs)
4.Sandinista! (1980, 3 CDs)
5.Combat Rock (1982)
These eight discs are joined by:•Three more CDs featuring rare tracks, demos, non-album singles, B-sides and previously unreleased music;
•DVD including unseen Julien Temple footage, early Super 8 film shot by Don Letts, all the band’s promotional videos and previously unseen live footage;
•“Owner’s Manual” booklet;
•Folder containing reprints of Armagideon Times 1 & 2 and Armagideon Times 3 (new edition of fanzine compiled and designed by Paul Simonon);
•Merchandise including dog tags, badges, stickers, a replica cigarette (!) and a Future Is Unwritten note book designed by Harland Miller; and
•An exclusive photo poster.The bonus discs in Sound System offer 14 never-before-released tracks out of 52 total on the three CDs from Strummer, Jones, Simonon and Nicky “Topper” Headon. (Headon joined the band in time for the reshuffled U.S. release of The Clash and remained a member until just prior to the release of Combat Rock). The first bonus disc concentrates on non-LP material from various singles and EPs. The second disc includes more non-LP singles as well as unreleased material like Bob Clearmountain’s 12-inch mix of “Rock the Casbah,” extended versions of “Sean Flynn” and “Ghetto Defendant,” and outtakes “The Beautiful People Are Ugly Too” and “Idle in Kangaroo Court.” The third disc offers the largest bounty of previously unissued material, boasting never-before-released Polydor demos of “London’s Burning,” “1977” and “White Riot,” and live tracks from London’s Lyceum Theatre recorded in December 1978. The DVD showcases more rare material such as a Sussex University performance from 1977, Don Letts’ Super 8 Medley, and a number of promo videos and Clash on Broadway footage. (Unsurprisingly absent from the box set is 1985’s studio album Cut the Crap, which only featured Strummer and Simonon from the classic line-up. This LP has been excised from the official Clash story as documented via numerous compilations, books and films by request of the band.)
Joining the Sound System box is The Clash Hits Back, a new 2-CD or 3-LP anthology with a most intriguing conceit: it’s been sequenced by surviving members Simonon, Jones and Headon to reflect the band’s Brixton Fairdeal performance from July 10, 1982. The Clash writes, “Every show was different. Joe would spend a lot of time composing the running order, considering dynamics, emotional impact and the key the songs were in.” And so the first disc begins with “London Calling,” and the second disc concludes the set list with “Garageland.” Eight additional tracks selected by the band round out the package.
Lastly, Sony is releasing an optimal Clash primer. The Clash 5-Studio Album Set will be available as both 8-vinyl LP and 8-CD sets, containing just the core remastered studio albums from Sound System: The Clash, Give ‘Em Enough Rope, London Calling, Sandinista!, Combat Rock.
When Joe Strummer died on December 22, 2002, any chance for a true reunion of The Clash came to an end. In March, 2003, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and since then, further reunions between Headon, Simonon and Jones have been rare. Jones and Headon recorded together with Billy Bragg in 2009, and Simonon and Jones joined with Gorillaz in 2010 in the studio and on tour. Sound System and its accompanying releases afford another chance to celebrate Strummer’s legacy and that of The Clash.

The sounds of summer will be in perfect harmony on August 27 when Capitol Records releases the Beach Boys’ long-awaited, retrospective box set Made in California. Word first came last summer of the 50th anniversary box, as the reunited group of Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks were winding down a phenomenally successful world tour. Since then, the Love/Johnston faction of the band has resumed touring, while Wilson, Jardine and Marks have announced a number of live dates to come this summer. A 2-CD chronicle of the 2012 tour has just been released, and last week, Brian Wilson announced his return as a solo artist to Capitol Records for an as-yet-unscheduled album to feature Jardine, Marks, and guests including Jeff Beck.
Though a late 2012 arrival was originally planned, the band intends to prove that good things do come to those who wait with this latest celebratory project. Made in California details the Hawthorne, California band’s history from 1961 to the present day over 6 CDs, with more than 7-1/2 hours of music and 60 previously unreleased tracks (17 of them live). Designed in the style of a high school yearbook, Made in California tells the Beach Boys’ story through all of their hits plus never-before-released songs, alternate takes, demos, rare mixes, and live performances.
Take the plunge and hit the jump for all of the details including the complete track listing! The water’s fine!
The first disc of Made in California takes Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, David Marks and Al Jardine from 1961 (previously unissued home recordings and rehearsal highlights of “Surfin’”) to 1964 (Top 10 single “Dance, Dance, Dance”), taking in the No. 1 hit “I Get Around” with a session introduction and other favorites including “Surfin’ USA,” “Surfin’ Safari,” “In My Room,” “The Warmth of the Sun” and “All Summer Long.” The second disc kicks off with Dennis Wilson’s rare lead on 1965’s “Do You Wanna Dance” in its 2012 true stereo mix, and ends with the title track to 1967’s Wild Honey in its true stereo mix. This disc is an exploration of Brian Wilson’s most creatively fertile period in which he and his bandmates and collaborators created Pet Sounds and SMiLE. Both albums are represented extensively, and the CD also finds room for “California Girls” (Bruce Johnston’s first appearance on record with The Beach Boys), “Barbara Ann” and the yearning “Let Him Run Wild.”Carl Wilson’s R&B lead on “Darlin’” from Wild Honey opens the third disc, which takes in highlights from Friends (“Friends,” “Little Bird,” “Busy Doin’ Nothin’”), 20/20 (“Be with Me,” “I Can Hear Music,” “Time to Get Alone”), Sunflower (“Add Some Music to Your Day,” “Forever,” “This Whole World”), and Surf’s Up (the majestic title track, the stunning “’Til I Die”). There are also a number of rarities on this disc such as Dennis Wilson’s “Fallin’ in Love (Lady)” and the never-on-CD “Sound of Free,” plus 2012 mixes of “Sail Plane Song,” “We’re Together Again,” and Al Jardine’s “Susie Cincinnati.” The fourth CD continues with more from Surf’s Up (Carl Wilson’s psychedelic tour de force “Feel Flows,” Bruce Johnston’s warmly nostalgic “Disney Girls (1957)”) before revisiting Carl and the Passions – So Tough (Jardine, Love and Carl Wilson’s Transcendental Meditation-inspired “All This is That,” Brian’s rocking “Marcella”), Holland (“Sail On, Sailor,” “California Saga – California,” “The Trader”), 15 Big Ones (“It’s OK,” “Had to Phone Ya,” an extended “Rock and Roll Music”), The Beach Boys Love You (the quirky “Solar System,” the ravishing “The Night is So Young”), M.I.U. Album (“Come Go with Me”) and L.A. (Light Album) (the back-to-basics “Good Timin,’” Carl’s “Angel Come Home,” Dennis’ “Baby Blue”). This CD also showcases the brief addition of Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar to the line-up. But the rarities on this disc will most impress, including Dennis Wilson’s near-mythic “(Wouldn’t It Be Nice to) Live Again,” the Beach Boys’ original take of Brian and Steve Kalinich’s “California Feelin’” with Carl, Bruce and Brian on lead, and a 2012 mix of “It’s a Beautiful Day” from the Americathon soundtrack.
The box’s fifth CD presents highlights from Keepin’ the Summer Alive (“Goin’ On”), the Steve Levine-produced The Beach Boys (“Getcha Back”), Made in U.S.A. (“California’ Dreamin’”), Still Cruisin’ (the inevitable “Kokomo,” originally on the Cocktail soundtrack) and 2012’s reunion That’s Why God Made the Radio (the title track, the single version of “Isn’t It Time”). The never-before-released “Soul Searchin’” and “You’re Still a Mystery” – The Beach Boys’ final recordings together with Carl Wilson – are the indisputable highlights of this disc, which also includes a lengthy live-in-concert portion. Fifteen songs span the period of 1965 to 1993. (The much-maligned Summer in Paradise studio album, which lacked any involvement from Brian Wilson, is represented via a 1993 live performance of its title track.)
The final CD offers 31 more unreleased tracks including a “Stack-o-Tracks” instrumental treatment of Glen Campbell’s “Guess I’m Dumb” (perhaps the best non-Beach Boys production ever by Brian Wilson), a cappella versions of “Slip on Through” and “This Whole World,” 15 Big Ones outtake “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” a demo of the dark “Be with Me,” the “California Feelin’” demo, and the outtake “Sherry, She Needs Me,” which became “She Says That She Needs Me” on Brian’s Imagination album. Radio spots and BBC performances also appear on this exciting grab-bag of vault material.
Made in California is packaged in a pseudo-high school yearbook, and contains hand-written, yearbook-style inscriptions from the surviving band members, plus essays and rare photos.

‚Memories of Old Days‘ is a compendium of curios, bootlegs, live tracks, rehearsals and demos 1975-1980, it is an alternative anthology covering the whole of the band’s time with Chrysalis Records.
„A unique insight into this highly influential and respected progressive rock band, the set starts with isolated tracks and rare recording sessions for their first Chrysalis LP, „Free Hand“ from 1975, as well as previously unreleased live recordings from that tour.
Next are writing sessions for the „Interview“ album, giving the hardcore fan a band’s eye view into the writing and recording process of Gentle Giant.
This set also features a whole concert rehearsal from 1977, a BBC In Concert from 1978, available on CD for the first time, and ends with two highly collectible live recordings from their final US tour in 1980, including their last ever recorded gig at the Roxy in Los Angeles“
