WerbungThe CHAMELEONS – „Elevated Living“ (2CD+DVD) [VÖ: 24.09.2021]
Live extravaganza from post-punk “sonic cathedrals” (©The Independent), The Chameleons featuring live sets recorded in the ‘80s across two CDs and one DVD
Featuring two live shows at The Hacienda and Camden Palace that have never been previously released on CD and an earlier set at the Gallery Club
Plus a DVD featuring all three shows and an episode of Catalan TV programme Arsenal devoted to the band
Formed in Greater Manchester in 1981, The Chameleons pioneered post punk, combining Reg Smithies’ and Dave Fielding’s layered, shimmering guitars, drummer John Lever’s tribal rhythms and Mark Burgess’ driving bass and impassioned vocals with lyrics often reflecting the anxiety and alienation of the Thatcher era.
“All tribal percussion and jagged guitar shards straining to frame vast vistas with one hand while clutching their alienated urban roots with the other.” NME
The Chameleons are an acknowledged influence on future generations of indie and alternative rock bands including Stone Roses, Oasis, The Charlatans, Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, The Killers, The Horrors, The National and Interpol.
‘Elevated Living’ includes their two celebrated hometown Manchester shows, ‘Live At The Gallery Club’ (1982) and ‘Live At The Hacienda’ (1983) and their superb show filmed for the ITV, ‘Live At The Camden Palace’ (1984) on both CD and DVD. The latter two shows are presented on CD for the first time.
The DVD also includes an episode of Catalan TV programme Arsenal devoted entirely to the band. Broadcast in January 1986, it mixes four tracks taken from a live show at the Discoteca 666 in Barcelona from 1985 (also on CD) plus studio performances and interviews with singer/bassist Mark Burgess and drummer John Lever.
The Gallery show includes rarities ‘Nathan’s Phase’ and ‘Things I Wished I’d Said’, while The Hacienda includes early versions of ‘A Person Isn’t Safe Anywhere These Days’ under the working title of ‘Men Of Steel’ and ‘Thursday’s Child’ as ‘Years Ago’.

WHITESNAKE – „Restless Heart“ (Super Deluxe Edition) [4CD/1DVD] VÖ: 29.10.2021
In the wake of Whitesnake’s massive global success, the band’s founder and lead singer, David Coverdale, set out to record his third solo album in 1995. However, the plan was derailed when pressure from his record label forced him to change course and release Restless Heart under the David Coverdale & Whitesnake moniker. Despite the changes, the 1997 album was a Top 40 hit in the UK.
RESTLESS HEART: SUPER DELUXE EDITION will be available on the 29th of October and is available for pre-order now. The 4CD/DVD collection features newly remastered and remixed versions of the original album, along with unreleased demos and studio outtakes. The DVD includes music videos and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album with new interviews from David Coverdale. The set comes with a hardbound book filled with rare and unseen photos from the era.
The Super Deluxe Edition opens with a newly remixed version of the album that’s closer to the sound Coverdale initially intended for his new solo release. It’s followed by a newly remastered version of Restless Heart, including the singles “Too Many Tears” and “Don’t Fade Away,” plus three bonus tracks from the album’s original Japanese release. Featured musicians include Adrian Vandenberg, Denny Carmassi, Guy Pratt and in addition, guitarist Joel Hoekstra and keyboardist Derek Sherinian who bring their exceptional talents to the party. The following two discs reveal how Restless Heart evolved, starting with early pre-production versions of every album track to later takes of those songs.
The DVD features several music videos (“Too Many Tears” and “Restless Heart) plus the Making of the Album featurette. There is also a video EP featuring the three relevant songs from the 1997 live acoustic album, Starkers In Tokyo, originally only available in Japan.

STEPPENWOLF – „Magic Carpet Ride – The Dunhill / ABC Years 1967-1971„ (8CD Box) [VÖ: 29.10.2021]
NEWLY REMASTERED EIGHT DISC BOXED SET FEATURING EACH ALBUM RECORDED BY THE LEGENDARY STEPPENWOLF FOR THE DUNHILL/ABC LABEL BETWEEN 1967 AND 1971
WITH 26 BONUS TRACKS DRAWN FROM RARE SINGLES AND MONO MIXES
INCLUDING THE ALBUMS ‘STEPPENWOLF’, ‘THE SECOND’, ‘AT YOUR BIRTHDAY PARTY’, ‘EARLY STEPPENWOLF’, ‘MONSTER’, ‘STEPPENWOLF LIVE’, ‘STEPPENWOLF 7’ and ‘FOR LADIES ONLY’
REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL DUNHILL/ABC MASTER TAPES
Steppenwolf was formed in 1967 in LA by John Kay (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Goldy McJohn (organ, piano) and Jerry Edmonton (drums) who were previously members of the Canadian band The Sparrows. They were joined by Michael Monarch (lead guitar) and Rushton Moreve (bass). The band signed to Dunhill/ABC the same year and with producer Gabriel Mekler they recorded their self-titled debut album.
The band were propelled to success with their classic single ‘Born To Be Wild’ (a #2 hit in the USA) and became even wider known when the track was featured, along with their version of ‘The Pusher’ in the classic 1969 counterculture film Easy Rider.
‘The Second’ was released in October ‘68 and featured the hit single ‘Magic Carpet
Ride’ (another US #2 hit). In March ‘69 ‘At Your Birthday Party’ was released to further success and was their first record to feature Nick St Nicholas on bass and their last to feature Michael Monarch. The July 1969 release ‘Early Steppenwolf’ featured live recordings made at The Matrix in San Francisco in May 1967 and featured a 20-minute version of ‘The Pusher’. The band’s next studio album, ‘Monster’, was issued in November 1969 and dealt with America’s involvement in the Vietnam War. 1970 saw the band release two albums, the double LP ‘Steppenwolf Live’ and ‘Steppenwolf 7’. By the release of the latter the band’s popularity began to wain slightly, although they would retain a large and loyal fan base. Their November 1971 album ‘For Ladies Only’ was their last for Dunhill/ABC and Steppenwolf disbanded in February 1972 only to reform in 1974.
