Drei CDs mit Aufnahmen, die an verschiedenen von Ellington selbst produzierten Sessions, die in den Siebzigern und Achtzigern bei Fantasy bzw. Pablo erschienen sind. „Intimacy of the Blues“ öffnet mit der „Combo Suite“, 1967 mit Cat Anderson, Lawrence Brown, Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, Harry Carney, John Lamb und Rufus Jones aufgenommen. Dann folgen Stücke in wechselnden Besetzungen u.a. mit Wild Bill Davis, Willie Cook, Brown, Gonsalves und Norris Turney vom Januar und Juni 1970.
Auf „The Intimate“ und „Up in Duke’s Workshop“ sind Big Band-Aufnahmen von 1969 bis 1972 versammelt, im Verlauf über eines Dutzends von teils kurzfristig einberufenen Sessions entstanden.

SEHR scheen….beim Lesen der einzelnen Titel habe ich mich gefragt, welches (für mich) wohl das wichtigste Album ist……denke das ist mit knappem Vorsprung „Second Genesis“…..
