Ohne mich in diskografischen Spitzfindigkeiten verfransen zu wollen: Es sind diese Live-Aufnahmen (mit Adderley, aber ohne If I Were A Bell ;-)). Aber wie gesagt für mich nicht zwingend. Die Studioaufnahmen sind es!

Ja genau. Die finde ich recht viel besser als das Konzert aus Newport – hatte gedacht, dass Deine CD wohl Auszüge aus dem Newport-Konzert (auf LP mit einem ebenfalls gekürzten Monk-Set, komplett dann auf CD) enthalte, weil dort eben auch das Sextett am Werk ist.

Ich muss sagen, das ich noch ältere Aufnahmen von Ellington im allgemeinen bevorzuge. Da war er einfach knackiger. Aber übel ist das hier nicht und Johnny Hodges auf Isfahan ist den Eintritt schon alleine wert.

Sehr tolles Album! „Happenings“ (ohne Jeansjacke zwar, aber mit noch feinerem Cover) mag ich wohl noch eine Spur lieber … aber Hutchersons Blue Note-Alben wenigstens bis und mit jenen mit Harold Land sind allesamt sehr gut oder besser! (Von etwas später ist „Head On“, die erweiterte Connoisseur Edition, mein ganz heisser Tip.)

Ich such die „Kicker“ – aufgenommen ´63 aber erst ´99 veröffentlicht. Tolle Besetzung mit Grant Green, John Henderson, Duke Pearson, Bob Cranshaw und Al Harewood. Hab leider noch keine einigermaßen bezahlbare Version gefunden. Kennst du die Aufnahmen?
