Vorhin aus dem Briefkasten geholt und vom ersten Eindruck ganz hervorragend … Eric Mingus rezitiert Gedichte von Langston Hughes, zur Hälfte begleitet von David Amram am Klaiver, zur andere von Larry Simon an der Gitarre, Scip Gallant an der Orgel, Don Davis, Catherine Sikora und Cynthia Chatis an Blasinstrumenten, Chris Stambaugh am Bass, Mike Barron am Schlagzeug sowie Shawn Russell und Frank Laurino an Percussion. Die Leute gehören wohl – von Amram und Mingus abgesehen – zum Kollektiv Groove Bacteria, das von Larry Simon geleitet wird.
Das Album kriegt man direkt beim Label, Email schreiben und über Paypal den Rest regeln … aber kann natürlich sein, dass es demnächst auch sonstwo vertrieben wird (amazon.com hat inzwischen auch die CD-Version gelistet, die in ein paar Tagen greifbar werden sollte, auf amazon.de gibt es weiterhin nur MP3).

Der erste Eindruck ist etwas verhalten, aber durchaus hypnotisch und da und dort auch ein paar rhythmische Haken schlagend. Sartorius‘ Schlagzeugspiel gefällt mir inzwischen im Trio sehr gut, auch wenn ich Anfangs den Abgang von Samuel Rohrer sehr bedauert hatte. Aber auf der eingeschlagenen Bahn ist Sartorius wohl der richtige.

Henderson spielt auf dem Opener und Titelstück (einem Blues aus Rosnes‘ Feder), auf „Caravan“ und „Canción para Cádiz“ von Leader Coolman. Die Aufnahme stammt von 1991, die CD erschien 1995. Bis zur Bestellung vor ein paar Tagen, als ich auch „Standard Joe“ und „An Evening with“ orderte, wusste ich nicht einmal von dieser CD und stiess beim Suchen nach den anderen beiden rein zufällig darauf. Im Trio gibt es „Con Alma“, „I’m Getting Sentimental Over You“, „All Too Soon“, „Summer Serenade“, „You Go to My Head“ und „One for Walton“ (den zweiten Beitrag von Rosnes).
