Wie schon vor einiger Zeit an anderer Stelle im Forum aus Simon Fords „Hip Priest – The Story Of Mark E. Smith and The Fall“ zitiert:

The resulting ten-inch record resided unhappily somewhere between a maxi-single and a mini-album. According to the BPI, the record industry’s governing body, to qualify as a single a record could not contain more than four tracks and to qualify as an album it must retail above a minimum of 2,49 GBP. With its six tracks and retailing at, as the cover said, „two pounds only u skinny rats“, Slates as a format effectively did not exist and would not appear in the official charts. It did, however, appear in Record Businness’s independent singles chart, reaching number three, a creditable position considering it was competing with records half its price.

Ein ganz wundervolles Comeback. Miniaturen zwischen EAI und abstrakter Electronica, die anfangs wie fluffige Fingerübungen in Klangmalerei klingen, bei jedem Hören aber an Statur und Track-übergreifenden Strukturen gewinnen. Und über allem Sound schwebt auch noch der Geist von Derek Bailey. Phantastisch.
