gipettoBei den Beastie Boys kann ich mich bis heute nicht festlegen, welches Album mein liebstes ist. So eine sensationell-kreative Strecke wie von Paul’s Boutique bis einschließlich Hello Nasty hat außer den Beatles wohl kaum eine Band hingelegt. Und auch das finale HSC2 hat beim diesjährigen Wiederhören bei mir richtig zugelegt. Deine Top 20 habe ich im vergangenen Jahr übrigens schmerzlich vermisst! Bei Cypress Hill fand ich auf IV eigentlich nur noch Doctor Greenthumb (?) ganz erfrischend. Mit G-Funk kann ich nahezu nichts anfangen, ich stehe mehr auf den entkernten funky Sound der Ostküste: Ein Beat, ein Bassloop, vielleicht ein paar wenige reduzierte Samples und darüber wird gereimt – das ist mein Ding. Und die Stoned Raiders fand ich leider ganz gruselig.
Bei der Beasties-Umfrage habe ich nicht teilgenommen, weil ich nach Check Your Head keine LP in Gänze kenne.
Das letzte Cypress-Album Back in Black ist ganz klassisch eastcoastig von Black Milk produziert worden. Klingt gut, aber auch ein bisschen langweilig – für Cypress-Verhältnisse. Elephants on Acid hat auch ein paar Throwbacks zum alten Sound:
