Acony Records is proud to announce that on June 28, 2011 they will release The Harrow & The Harvest, the new album by Gillian Welch, featuring ten new songs recorded at her own Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee and produced by David Rawlings.On May 30, 2011, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings will embark on a North American tour supporting The Harrow & The Harvest that will continue through the summer and into the fall. The acclaimed duet will visit over seventy cities in their most extensive tour in over a decade.

Sehr schade.

.SweetheartEs bleibt zu hoffen, dass ihre bisherigen Alben endlich auf Vinyl veröffentlicht werden, aber anscheinend ist dies auch für „The Harrow & The Harvest“ nicht vorgesehen. Sehr schade.
Sollte trotzdem niemand abhalten, ihre tolle Musik anzuhören.

Erster Eindruck: großartig. Da ist’s nicht mehr allzu schlimm, dass Laura Marlings Album erst im September erscheinen soll.

Dirty, dirty feet from the concert in the grass / I wanted to believe that freedom there could last (Willy Mason)A Friend of a Friend von David Rawlings war schon ziemlich großartig, aber dieses Album ist noch besser. Zehn zeitlose Songs, tief verwurzelt in der amerikanischen Tradition und frisch wie der Tau am Morgen; der Sound eines großen Landes, so weit wie die Prärie (das ist der Eindruck, den das entspannte Gitarrenspiel und die langsamen Tempi bei mir hervorrufen). Gillian Welchs Stimme hat nie besser und ausdrucksvoller geklungen als hier. Die erste Hälfte des Albums (mit zwei Stimmen und zwei Gitarren) ist schier vollkommen und enthält mindestens einen Song für die Ewigkeit („The Way It Will Be“, der mich an Danny Whittens „I Don’t Want to Talk About It“ und an die zweite Seite von Neil Youngs On the Beach denken lässt). Die zweite Hälfte (in der die beiden auch mal zum Banjo und zur Mundharmonika greifen und in die Hände klatschen) kann das Niveau nicht ganz halten, was aber nichts daran ändert, dass hier ein rundum gelungenes Album vorliegt.

To Hell with PovertyBin grad beim zweiten Titel angelangt und habe schon feuchte Augen, so bewegend ist „Dark turn of mind“. Unglaublich. Alleine für den Titel hätte ich mir die CD geholt.
