Schätze die Platte als Ganzes jedoch etwas höher ein.
„Beautiful Freak“ erreicht sie jedoch nicht.

Ich kann dem insgesamt zustimmen, würde aber Track 2 und 4 statt 3 und 5 fett herausstreichen und halte „Efils‘ God“ für den besten Song auf dem Album überhaupt (hatte das in einem anderen Thread schonmal mit jemandem diskutiert – offenbar sieht das außer mir niemand oder kaum jemand so). Auch „Baby Genius“ finde ich irgendwie charmant. Der Text und die Comicgeräusche in Verbindung mit der Melodie von „Oh du fröhliche“ ist gleichermaßen gewagt wie effektvoll. Ach ja, und „Elizabeth“ kann man natürlich auch nicht mit ***1/2 abspeisen. Das ist m.E. ein essentielles E-Stück, die Verarbeitung des Selbstmordes seiner Schwester ergreift auch beim xten Hören noch:

when you wanna die

Das tut richtig weh, und die Musik ist genauso hoffnungslos, weil es am Schluss keine Auflösung gibt. Ein schwieriger Song, nichtsdestotrotz sehr genial!

RheinbogenAch ja, und „Elizabeth“ kann man natürlich auch nicht mit ***1/2 abspeisen. Das ist m.E. ein essentielles E-Stück, die Verarbeitung des Selbstmordes seiner Schwester ergreift auch beim xten Hören noch:

Das tut richtig weh, und die Musik ist genauso hoffnungslos, weil es am Schluss keine Auflösung gibt. Ein schwieriger Song, nichtsdestotrotz sehr genial!

Tja, da muss ich Rheinbogen dieses Mal zur Seite springen, „Elizabeth“ ist ein unglaublich intensives Stück, umso mehr noch als Opener. Ich bin absolut begeistert davon, wie emotional E diesen Song singt. Besonders bei der Zeile „And I think that I am going to a place where I am always high“, achtet mal darauf, wie er ab „am going…“ in eine richtig verträumte, schwache Stimme, die sich an eben diese Hoffnung klammert, wechselt – Gänsehaut!
