@nikodemus: Butter bei die Fische, da meine Top 20 schon seit gestern steht. 14 Tracks aus meiner Top 20 sind in Deiner Top 40 enthalten. Top Ten-Überschneidungen haben wir sogar 5 an der Zahl. Fazit: Bedingt geeignet für eine Vorauswahl.

nikodemus 40 gute REM Songs sind nicht viel, da müssten einige Top Songs noch draußen bleiben (zB Gardening @night)

Da sagst Du was. Welche Version von „Gardening at Night“ bevorzugst Du? (Ich neige ja zum „Different Vocal Mix“, also zur mit voller Stimme gesungenen Originalversion, die es nicht auf Chronic Town geschafft hat.) Und dasselbe bei „Radio Free Europe“: die Hibtone-Single oder die Neuaufnahme für Murmur?

Schwierig, im Zweifel würde ich auf die Alben Versionen zurückgreifen, gerade das gemurmelte, vernuschelte Chronic Town Gardening At Night macht viel von dem Reiz der frühen REM aus. Bei RFE finde ich den Unterschied nicht so gravierend.
