Tippe auf „was vollkommen anderes“ aber es gibt wohl Überschneidungen, was den Inhalt betrifft. Überzeugt mich nicht, aber ich bin nicht das Zielpublikum. Kommt mir – mit Ausnahmen – vor wie eine Selektion der zweiten Wahl.

Von denen hätte es ja auch in der geplanten 50er-Box nicht gerade viele gegeben. Sam Rivers hab ich inzwischen als LP, ein paar weitere gab es in Japan als Teil einer kleinen Impulse/Universal-Serie vor ein paar Jahren … die Box kommt zu spät bzw. ist am Ende wohl die übliche (halbwegs wertig gestaltete) Billig-Kiste, nicht das schöne Jubiläums-Teil, das das Label verdient gehabt hätte (das aber die 50er-Box auch nur halb geworden wäre, bei der doch etwas seltsamen Auswahl – weder die grossen Meisterwerke noch die obskursten Raritäten …)

I told Harry Levine, „I’d like to do a gatefold cover with a laminated surface, but not just one title. I think we need a handful of titles, a full line, in order to have a dynamic impact in the marketplace.“ Harry agreed.
„Pulse“ was my original idea for the name of the label. That’s what jazz is all about – a rhythm or a pulse. ABC did a copyright search but the name wouldn’t clear. Some other product had the name. It occurred to me that Im-pulse would also be appropriate, to have a jazz label with a name that meant „of the moment.“ That cleared but not too long after the first Impulse titles came out, I walked into the men’s room at Idlewild Airport and there on the urinal was the brand name „Impulse.“ I don’t think that hurt our sales.

The lower case „i“ against the exclamation point was the idea of my secretary – Margo Guryan, a songwriter who later married Bob Brookmeyer. The orange and black in the Impulse design was my concept. I was pleased to discover that those colors on the spine worked so well. Those Impulse albums stood out on people’s shelves at home, and it certainly worked well at the retail level.

… und die klavierunterricht bei bill evans hatte, auf der lennox school of jazz mit ornette coleman zusammenarbeitete, lyrics für „lonely woman“ schrieb, später „sunday mornin'“ komponierte, aber leider nicht singen konnte. ihr album TAKE A PICTURE ist trotzdem sehr schön. dass sie die idee zum impulse-logo hatte, wusste ich nicht.

Ja, die Versandkosten verderben einem oft die Lust an schönen Sachen. Auch bei discogs, wenn man sich die Versandkosten da ansieht, muss man sich an den Kopf fassen.
Gerade gestern war ich beim Zoll um eine popelige Platte aus UK abzuholen, klar gegen einen zusätzlichen Obolus.

Ja, die Versandkosten verderben einem oft die Lust an schönen Sachen. Auch bei discogs, wenn man sich die Versandkosten da ansieht, muss man sich an den Kopf fassen. Gerade gestern war ich beim Zoll um eine popelige Platte aus UK abzuholen, klar gegen einen zusätzlichen Obolus.
Habe gestern nach langer Zeit wieder über Discogs gekauft … der Preis von zwei KlassikCD’s in Neuzustand war geringer als die Versandkosten aus Frankreich ….

"Kunst ist schön, macht aber viel Arbeit" (K. Valentin)Aus Europa schwanken die Versandkosten enorm, auch aus DE, FR usw. höchst unterschiedlich. Manche versenden wohl nur mit Tracking oder so, keine Ahnung, manchmal schon frech (18€ für 1-4 CDs aus DE z.B.). Aber das Impulse-Ding kam ja aus den USA und da ist das halt effektiv seit 20 Jahren so.
