Einen längeren Text von mir gibt es nicht zum Album, es fiele mir auch schwer, es besser in Worte zu fassen als beispielsweise Pitchfork: „The mystical grandeur of Golden Hour creates a magnetic effect as Kacey Musgraves sings simply about the world as if she’s the first person to notice, and you’re the first one she’s telling. Golden Hour is an album-length ode to not having the right words, to being overcome by the moment and surrendering to it.“ Sehr treffend fand ich auch die Stereogum-Laudatio, die ich weiter ob schon mal zitiert habe. In den Reviews, die ich gelesen habe, werden eine Reihe von Vergleichen angeboten, Becks „Sea Change“ etwa oder Fleetwood Macs „Rumours“. Meine Assoziation nach den ersten Durchgängen, was das Songwriting, die Stimmung, den Ton des Albums angeht, war allerdings „The Invisible Band“ von Travis (zu dem die Meinungen ja ähnlich weit auseinandergingen).

Ich rate generell davon ab, Alben ungehört zu kaufen. Empfohlen habe ich (den Country-Hörern) eigentlich das Anhören. Wenn ich mich jetzt festlegen muss, dann wäre Interstate Gospel mir wohl * * * 1/2 wert. Teile des Albums sind bloß unterhaltsam, andere haben Tiefe. Manches Backing könnte spannender sein und das Sequencing ist nicht optimal. Ich finde das Album nicht durchgehend gut, aber das Songwriting ist niveauvoll und die besten Songs gefallen mir so gut, dass ich einen Kauf in Erwägung ziehe. Entschieden habe ich mich aber noch nicht.

herr-rossiWen Top 3-Platzierungen in fast allen Kritiker-Jahreslisten nicht neugierig machen, dessen Interesse werde ich wohl auch nicht wecken können, aber Kacey Musgraves „Golden Hour“ ist zukünftiger Pop-Kanon, makellose Evergreen-Kollektion und dabei ein Solitär jenseits aller aktuellen Trends. Ihre ersten beiden Alben lassen nur geringe Rückschlüsse zu, denn das hier ist definitiv kein Country-Album, sondern intimer und zugleich groß gedachter Singer/Songwriter-Pop. Einflüsse wie etwa Filter House fügen sich dabei organisch ein.
Hmm, mal sehen.

Ich bin tatsächlich kein sehr großer Fan von The Invisible Band, sehe aber den Charme, verstehe den Reiz und kann dem Album zwar nicht allzu viel aber doch etwas abgewinnen. Sea Change und Rumours mag ich allerdings beide wirklich sehr. Mal sehen!
