choosefruit „Woodstock“ ist erneut ein kritischer Fall. Das CSN&Y-Cover erschien ebenso wie die LP „Ladies Of The Canyon“ von Joni Mitchell im März 1970. Welche Version zuerst veröffentlicht wurde, konnte ich auf die Schnelle nicht herausfinden. Joni Mitchell spielte das Stück schon 1969 live, worauf sich wohl CSN&Y bezogen, da ihre Studioaufnahme eher aufgenommen wurde, als Mitchells. Für mich ist der vorgeschlagene Track dennoch eindeutig ein Cover.

Für mich ist das Original von Joni. Sie schrieb das Stück nach dem Woodstock Festival. Kurz danach spielte sie es auf einem Festival. Das soll auf einer DVD festgehalten sein.

„Eyesight to the Blind“ wurde ursprünglich von Sonny Boy Williamson aufgenommen und 1951 als seine erste Single auf Lillian McMurrys Label Trumpet Records veröffentlicht.
Das Cover von Mose Allison stammt von seinem 1959 auf Prestige erschienenen Album „Autumn Song“.
Sonny Boy Williamsons Original ist ein eher klassischer Blues Song, während Mose Allisons Cover den Song in eine schnellere, schön swingende Nummer transformiert.

Auch hier sollte mal kurz drüber nachgedacht werden, ob das eine Coverversion von Bowie ist. Das Stück haben Iggy Pop und David Bowie zusammen geschrieben. Klar ist, dass Pop den Song zuerst veröffentlicht hat. Von daher ist ihm wohl das Original zuzuordnen. Bei Bowie würde ich nicht von einer Coverversion sprechen. Eine Coverversion von einem Stück, dass man selbst (mit)geschrieben hat. Da sträubt sich etwas in mir.

„It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue“ ist ein fantastisches Stück Musik, was auch die wunderbaren bisher nominierten Cover bestätigen. Fehlt nur die ebenso famose Them-Interpretation unter den Vorschlägen.
