So. Dann wollen wir mal.
Die 80er, für mich ein seltsames Jahrzehnt.
Musikmäßig zum großen Teil nicht mein Ding. Karottenhosen und
Popper nervten mich. Bisschen erfrischend noch am Anfang die NDW, die ich zum
Teil recht lustig fand und vieles auch mochte und heute noch immer gut hören kann.
Aber so allmählich lösten sich die Cliquen auf, die Leute hatten plötzlich andere Interessen,
Beruf, Familie. viele zogen weg. Nächtelanges Musikhören mit Freunden und über Musik reden wurde immer weniger. Und mit dem Tod von Bob Marley, neben Zappa einer meiner großen Idole, ging auch die Jugend irgendwie zu Ende. Das war ein herber Einschnitt.
Wenn man den Satz „The Day, The Music Died“ aus American Pie her nimmt, dann war es für mich nicht Buddy Holy, sondern der gute Bob. Da ging was in mir kaputt.
Musikalisch hab ich mich in den 80ern dann hauptsächlich sehr intensiv mit dem Back-Katalog von Zappa bzw. seinen aktuellen Sachen beschäftigt.
Er brachte ja damals Platten wie am Fließband raus und war
live sehr aktiv. Die Indie Szene ging komplett an mir vorbei.
Deshalb meine Liste diesmal wieder fast ausschließlich Sachen, die ich damals gehört habe, die mich bewegt haben und die ich auch heute noch höre. Und für die meisten wohl eher mainstreamig.
Aber wie gesagt, die große Lust am „Entdecken“ hatte ich in den 80ern nicht.

Ausnahme ist Costello, den ich erst die letzten zwei Jahre für mich entdecke, den ich aber unbedingt drin haben wollte.

Der Soundtrack meiner Jugend war natürlich Pop-Pop-Pop. Ähnlich wie Franz hat mich der „Underground“ nicht interessiert. Aber deswegen musste man ja nicht auf Sunshine Reggae oder Girl You Know It’s True abgehen, denn im Mainstream gab es ganz großartige Sachen, die ich auch heute noch höre, ohne rot zu werden. Peinlich ist mir nur meine „Brothers In Arms“-Phase ;-). Und ich gebe zu, ich habe auch U2 in ihrer Missionarsphase gehört. Ein Song von denen musste einfach mit rein.

Bevor jetzt die ersten aufschreien: Giant Sand habe ich tatsächlich im Frühjahr 89 durch drei Alben (Giant Songs, The Love Songs und Siant Gandwich) kennengelernt und deshalb ist mein Lieblingstitel drin.
ABBA spielten für ich in den 80ern keine Rolle, nach „The Album“ hatte meine heftige Liebe zu ABBA ein abruptes Ende, weil mich ganz andere Bands interessierten.
1984 lernte ich REM (Reckoning) kennen und das war der erste Schritt zurück zu einer gitarrenorientierten Musik, die bis dato für mich neu war. Alle Titel der Liste habe ich auch in den 80er gehört. Müßte ich die 80er aus der jetzigen Sicht posten, sähe sie ziemlich anders aus.

Ärgerlich! Ich hätte locker 200 Titel gefunden! Ist ja auch klar, zu der Zeit war ich Teenager und außer Musik, Fußball und Mädels hatte ich nichts im Kopp. Es gibt wirklich ziemlich viele Songs, die ich gern noch in die Liste gebracht hätte, ich glaube, dafür wird es mir bei der 90er-Liste umso schwerer fallen, 100 Titel zu finden, die mir wirklich gut gefallen. Ganz bestimmt fällt mir noch heute was ein, was unbedingt in die Liste gemußt hätte, aber ich habe keine Lust, noch tagelang daran zu basteln. Sie ist also ganz aus dem Bauch raus innerhalb von gut zwei Stunden entstanden.

Okay, das ist jetzt die authentische, nahezu ungeschönte Wahrheit über meine 80er. Die Bands, die ich erst viel später für mich entdeckt habe (zB Giant Sand, The Smiths, The Fall, Roxy Music, Pixies, Hüsker Dü, Talking Heads, Nine Inch Nails, Nick Cave usf.), habe ich schweren Herzens außer acht gelassen. Entsprechendes gilt auch für die Songauswahl. Deshalb fehlt zB „ashes to ashes“ von Bowie, dafür ist „dancing in the streets“ drin, eine meiner ersten Singles. Ebenso ist mir bewusst, dass es wichtigere Songs von Anthrax gibt als „Antisocial“ (eine Coverversion) und dass „the evil that men do“ nicht unbedingt zu den drei besten Iron Maiden-Songs gehört. Aber der Song ist nun mal von meiner ersten Maiden-Platte und liegt mir daher besonders am Herzen…. Ob die Songs übrigens gut oder schlecht gealtert sind, war für meine Auswahl nicht entscheidend.

So! Der heißersehnte „100 Lieblingssongs der Achtziger“-Thread. Das erste Jahrzehnt, das ich von musikalischer Sichtweise aus betrachtet, völlig von Anfang an bewusst erlebt habe. Deshalb alle von mir gelisteten Titel vollkommen authentisch (d.h., in dem entsprechenden Jahrzehnt erworben und gehört – den gewaltigsten Teil zum Zeitpunkt der VÖ – und „hautnah“ erlebt…). Natürlich gehört zur musikalischen Entwicklung und dem dementsprechenden in die Materie „reinwachsen“ und mit ihr „erwachsen“ werden auch dazu, sich z.T. immer weiter zu spezialisieren, d.h. man verlässt von Fall zu Fall den Weg des „Mainstream“ und widmet sich dem „Underground“. Dies machte einem das Jahrzehnt der 80er sehr mühelos einfach. War es doch das ausgewiesene Jahrzehnt der verschiedensten Subkulturen und musikalischen Szenen, in dessen Nischen man ganz gut fündig und satt werden konnte, liess man sich erstmal darauf ein…
Was man durchaus an meiner Liste feststellen kann…
Was nicht heissen soll, ich hätte das Interesse an „Overground“ vollkommen abgelegt. Es wäre für mich auch ein Leichtes gewesen, hier eine Top 100, ausschliesslich aus Charthits vorzulegen. Im Übrigen hätte ich überhaupt keine Probleme damit gehabt, den 100 noch eine Null anzuhängen… Die absolute Schwierigkeit für mich bestand nämlich darin, die Liste auf „nur“ 100 Titel zu beschränken. Schweren Herzens musste ich auf diverse (extrem viele…) Songs verzichten, die ich nur zu gerne ebenfalls aufgeführt hätte (eine Gedenkminute an dieser Stelle geht im Besonderen an Section 25, Test Dept., Coil, EA80, Legendary Pink Dots, Schwefel, Tones On Tail, Spear Of Destiny, Violent Femmes, Trisomie 21, Kirlian Camera, The Damned, The Psychedelic Furs, Pet Shop Boys, Fischer Z, Invincible Limits, Multicoloured Shades, Modern English und die Ärzte, die nur knapp scheiterten – und an all die anderen…).
