Al Stewart – From Collectors Choice Music, all 13 of his out-of-print-in-the-U.S. albums, each garnished with rare and/or unreleased bonus tracks (many never-before-heard songs) out of Al’s private archive. Stewart expert Thane Tierney has put the whole thing together with the help of Al and his management, and written new notes, too.
‚Bedsitter Images‘ „Al’s first album from 1967, never available on CD by itself anywhere in the world! This reissue includes all the tracks from both versions of the album release. The bonus tracks, are killer: Go Your Way, a track from Al’s first-ever recording session in 1965, only three acetates of which are known to exist, and My Contemporaries, a hilarious, unreleased send-up of the Who’s My Generation!“
‚Love Chronicles‘ „Al’s second album was dubbed Folk Album of the Year by Melody Maker 1969, and featured Richard Thompson, Ashley Hutchings and other Fairport Convention members under aliases! Bonus es include Jackdaw, from the fan-club-only disc It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time; the unreleased She Follows Her Own Rules, from recordings with Peter White, and the unreleased demo Fantasy“
‚Zero She Flies‘ „Released in 1970, Zero She Flies featured Trevor Lucas of Fairport Convention, and has never been available by itself on CD anywhere in the world. Includes the bonus tracks Stormy Night, an unreleased track recorded with Peter White ;News from Spain, a remix/edit of a track from the Orange album previously available only on an import, and Lyke-Wake Dirge, an unreleased, classic folk song featuring Mimi Farina on vocals“
‚Orange‘ „Rick Wakeman and Brinsley Schwarz of the Rumour join Al on this, his fourth album from 1970. And joining the original album are the bonus tracks Soho (Needless to Say), previously available only on a fan club, limited-edition release; Elvaston Place, previously available only on import, and It Doesn’t Matter Anymore, an unreleased demo version of the Paul Anka song made famous by Buddy Holly“
‚Modern Times‘ „Studio whiz Alan Parsons produced this 1975 release, Al’s sixth album and his first Top 40 entry! Includes two bonus tracks previously available on the fan club release Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time – A Sense of Deja Vu and Willie the King, plus the import-only track Swallow Wind“
’24 Carrots‘ „Peter White and Toto’s Jeff Porcaro join Al on his ninth album; includes from the original, Top 40 1980 release Running Man; As for bonus tracks, we have two unreleased songs from further recordings with Peter White, The Ringing of Bells and Tonton Macoute, plus the fan-club-only sideCandy Came Back.“
‚Live Indian Summer‘ „Al’s double live album from 1981 also featured a side of new studio tracks, which appear here fully restored along-side the live tracks for the first time anywhere on CD“
‚Russians and Americans‘ „Album #11 from Al appears here with all the tracks from the various versions of the 1980 release and the bonus tracks feature the unreleased demo Al wrote for the soundtrack to World According to Garp, plus two fan-club-only tracks, In Red Square and How Does It Happen“
‚Last Days of the Century‘ „Not only did Tori Amos contribute vocals to this 1988 release, but two of our bonus tracks, Ten Cents and Dreaming, are demos co-written by Al and Tori shortly after the sessions for this album! And the other bonus track is no slouch, either: a demo version with vocals of Ghostly Horses of the Plain, previously available only on a fan club release“
‚Rhymes in Rooms‘ „Al’s second live album, recorded in 1992 and featuring long-time collaborator Peter White! The bonus tracks are both unreleased: an early demo version of Timeless Skies from the Time Passages album and a live version of the Elvis Costello tune London’s Brilliant Parade“
‚Famous Last Words‘ „Al’s 14th album, released in 1993 and garnished on this reissue with three tracks previously available only on a fan club release: The Coldest Winter in Memory; Blow Your Mansion Down, and In the Dark“
‚Between the Wars‘ „Lawrence Juber of Wings and session drummer superstar Jim Keltner join Al on this, his 15th album, released in 1993. Two fan-club-only tracks comprise the bonus entries: The Bear Farmers of Birnam and Merry Monks“
‚Down in the Cellar‘ „This one’s a special treat for Al Stewart fans, because this 2001 album has never been available commercially, as the original label went bankrupt immediately upon its release! Both the album and song titles will tip you off that the subject matter is Al’s other passion in life, wine-collecting. The bonus tracks are “top shelf”—Dark Side and Belsize Blues, both unreleased recordings with Peter White“.
