"Don't play what the public want. You play what you want and let the public pick up on what you doin' -- even if it take them fifteen, twenty years." 3. I’ve Made Up My Mind to Give Myself to You (Bob Dylan)Bob Dylan (voc, g), Blake Mills (g), Charlie Sexton (g), Robert Britt (g), Tony Garnier (b), Matt Chamberlain (d), Charlie Sexton & Tommy Rhodes (background voc)
Sunset Sound Recorders, Los Angeles, CA, Januar/Februar 2020
von: Rough and Rowdy Ways (Columbia, 2 CD, 2020)—
Sitting on my terrace lost in the stars
Listenin’ to the sounds of the sad guitars
Been thinking it over and I thought it all through
I’ve made up my mind to give myself to youI saw the first fall of snow
I saw the flowers come and go
I don’t think anyone else ever knew
I made up my mind to give myself to youI’m giving myself to you, I am
From Salt Lake City to Birmingham
From East L.A. to San Antone
I don’t think I could bear to live my life aloneMy eye is like a shooting star
It looks at nothing, neither near or far
No one ever told me, it’s just something I knew
I’ve made up my mind to give myself to youIf I had the wings of a snow white dove
I’d preach the gospel, the gospel of love
A love so real – a love so true
I made up my mind to give myself to youTake me out traveling, you’re a traveling man
Show me something that I’ll understand
I’m not what I was, things aren’t what they were
I’m going to go far away from home with herI traveled the long road of despair
I met no other traveler there
A lot of people gone, a lot of people I knew
I’ve made up my mind to give myself to youMy heart’s like a river – a river that sings
It just takes me a while to realize things
I’ll see you at sunrise – I’ll see you at dawn
I’ll lay down beside you, when everyone is goneFrom the plains and the prairies – from the mountains to the sea
I hope that the gods go easy with me
I knew you’d say yes – I’m saying it too
I’ve made up my mind to give myself to you~ Bob Dylan

Going down in Kackbratzentowndas klingt ganz schön und bewegt mich auch durchaus. aber insgesamt ist mir die neue dylan musikalisch insgesamt doch etwas zu undyamisch geraten.

Mir kommt dieser instrumentale Hook bei „I’ve Made Up My Mind to Give Myself to You“ sehr bekannt vor, ein bewusstes Zitat?

I would beg to disagree
But begging disagrees with me
I would beg to disagree
But begging disagrees with meI told you I didn’t wanna go to this dinner
You know I don’t go for those ones that you bother about
So when they say something that makes me start to simmer
That fancy wine won’t put this fire out, ohKick me under the table all you want
I won’t shut up, I won’t shut up
Kick me under the table all you want
I won’t shut up, I won’t shut upI’d like to buy you a pair of pillow-soled hiking boots
To help you with your climb
Or rather, to help the bodies that you step over along your route
So they won’t hurt like mineKick me under the table all you want
I won’t shut up, I won’t shut up
Kick me under the table all you want
I won’t shut up, I won’t shut upAnd if I don’t wanna go, leave me alone
Don’t push me, cookie, don’t push me, don’t you push me
If you get me to go and I open my mouth
To the fucking mutton that they’re talking about
You can pout, but don’t you, don’t you
Don’t you, don’t you, don’t you shush meKick me under the table all you want
I won’t shut up, I won’t shut up
Kick me under the table all you want
I won’t shut up, I won’t shut up
Kick me under the table all you want (I would beg to disagree)
