11. Jim Croce – Thursday
Single-B-Side taken from „Bad Bad Leroy Brown – Collection“ (1974)Diesen Jim Croce-Song habe ich einer Compilation entnommen. Erschienen ist er originär als B-Side der Single „Working at the Car Wash Blues“. Warum er „Thursday“ betitelt ist, erschliesst sich aus dem Text nicht. Jim Croce singt von der Beziehung zu einer Frau, für die er nicht bereit war, nur ein Freund zu sein. Croce, der aus Philadelphia stammte, kam im Alter von 30 Jahren im Jahr 1973 bei einem Flugzeugabturz ums Leben.

13. Steely Dan – Black Friday
Album: Katy lied (1975)“Katy lied“ ist seit jeher mein liebstes „Steely Dan“-Album. Auch hier ist alles wie sonst auch raffiniert und perfekt arrangiert, jedoch hält das Album für mich ein paar Höhepunkte mehr als andere „Dan“-Alben parat. U.a. verziert die Gitarrenarbeit von Rick Derringer und Larry Carlton das Album. Auch „Black friday“ ist ein solches Highlight, wobei die grandiose Gitarrenarbeit zu dem Song wohl Walter Becker zuzuschreiben ist. Becker und Fagen dokumentierten in dem Song, dass sie wohl beim nächsten Börsen-Crash gewappnet sein würden, um hernach nur noch in Australien Känguruhs zu füttern. „When black Friday comes I’m gonna stake my claim.“

Album: Heavy soul (1997)Ein zweites Mal Paul Weller’s Stimme in dieser Sendung. „Friday Street“ ist einer der besseren Tracks seines 97-er Albums „Heavy soul“. Und ohne jetzt zu wissen, wo diese „Friday Street“ nun ist, in der richtigen Stimmung so erfrischend optimistisch: „Lives alive on Friday Street, you start to shine in a brand new heat and the world is clear like you’re not really here and I see myself and I’m really not scared.“

15. The Black Crowes – Good Friday
Album: Three snakes and one charm (1996)Das 96-er Album „Three snakes and one charm“ gehört so gar nicht zu meinen Favoriten der Krähen nach den hervorragenden Werken „Southern harmony and musical companion“ sowie „Amorica“. Aber eben der Song „Good Friday“ knüpft am ehesten an die großen Vorgänger an. Und es ist wieder eine Beziehungskiste. Wochentag-Songs handeln wohl sehr häufig davon, scheint mir.
