Hey man, why don't we make a tune... just playin' the melody, not play the solos...@atom: Ich habe nur die Alice Coltrane, und selbst die habe ich etwas vernachlässigt, sie würde aber direkt auf 11 oder 12 kommen. Tyner/Henderson hatte ich nicht auf dem Schirm, Miles Davis steht zur Zeit nicht oben auf der Prioritätenliste und bei den Can-Liveaufnahmen bin ich auch schon ausgestiegen. Ist Paris nochmal ein Höhepunkt der Reihe?

Simon Joyner – Coyote Butterfly ****
Großartige neue Platte von Simon Joyner, auf der er sich mit dem Tod seines Sohnes Owen auseinandersetzt. Das ist stellenweise so intim, persönlich und herzzerreißend, daß es schwer zu ertragen ist, trotzdem ganz weit weg von jeglicher Rührseligkeit. Radikal entschlackte und reduzierte Arrangements, seine typische, immer wieder genau im richtigen Moment brechende Stimme, das könnte zu viel sein, wären da nicht die leisen, hingetupften Töne der Begleitband (bestehend aus David Nance, Kevin Donahue, Ben Brodin und Michael Krassner), die den Songs immer wieder das Erdrückende nehmen.Gillian Welch & David Rawlings – Woodland ****
Das seit Ewigkeiten erste neue Album von Gillian Welch und David Rawlings mit neuen Songs. Für ihre Verhältnisse deutlich voller, moderner und auch süffiger produziert als vorherige Alben. Wenn dann das große orchestrale Besteck aufgefahren wird wie bei „What We Had“ oder „Hashtag“, ist mir das fast schon zu viel. Auch rein akustische Tracks wie „Lawman“ lassen etwas den Biß, das leicht Herbe und Strenge und auch Archaische vergangener Alben vermissen. Das alles ist natürlich Jammern auf höchstem Niveau. Die Songs sind wieder wunderbar, die Gesangsharmonien der beiden wie eh und je. Schöne Platte, die mir gefällt, mich aber nicht so anrührt wie z.B. „The Harrow & the Harvest“ aus dem Jahr 2011.Das ergibt dann folgenden Zwischenstand:
