Das klingt jetzt sehr locker. Ist das komplette Album in dieser Stimmung aufgenommen worden?

demonIst es das, was bei dir „Stride-Piano“ heißt?
„Stride“ ist dieses jumpende Spiel auf dem Beat bzw. auf 2 und 4. Das kommt aus der Frühzeit des Jazz, ist aber auch bei Musikern wie Basie, Ellington oder Tatum zu hören – bei modernen Pianisten aber eher selten, doch Monk ist da eine Ausnahme, er ist ja auch viel stärker der Tradition verbunden als die meisten modernen Jazzer.

Würde ich nicht unbedingt sagen – aber die beiden Alben (wir hören gleich noch ein Stück vom darauffolgenden vierten) lohnen schon. Die ersten beiden („Monk’s Dream“ und „Criss Cross“) sind mir aber von den Columbia Studio-Alben die liebsten.

Danke Flurin. Habe gesehen, dass es die die 6 Columbia Alben auch auf einer Box (von CBS) gibt.
Genau, es gibt eine Live- und eine Studio-Box – beide lohnen, finde ich, auch wenn ich insgesamt die Blue Note- und die Riverside-Aufnahmen mehr schätze.
