„Sittin‘ on a Fence“ is a song written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the English rock band the Rolling Stones. The song was given to the singing duo Twice as Much, who released it as their debut single in May 1966. This version became a Top 40 hit on the UK Singles Chart,[2] and also received some attention in the United States, where it charted on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.

The Rolling Stones‘ version was recorded in December 1965 during the Aftermath sessions, and released first in the United States on the 1967 album Flowers.[1] The song was released in Great Britain in 1969 on the greatest hits album Through the Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol. 2). The group did not release it as a single.

It is included on the 1972 compilation More Hot Rocks (Big Hits & Fazed Cookies), but as with so much Stones material from 1967, the band has never performed “Sittin‘ on a Fence” live.[3] Towards the end of the acoustically driven song, a harpsichord, played by Brian Jones, can be heard.

The Twilights formed in 1964 as a vocal harmony trio in the Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth. The group initially employed various local acts for musical backing, but in late 1964 they merged forces with The Hurricanes and became a full-time six-piece. A record deal with Columbia followed, and over the course of several 45 releases the group’s popularity snowballed from local to national, peaking in September ’66, when their sixth single, „Needle In A Haystack“ hit the #1 spot.

Ironically, just as the group’s creativity was shining brightest, their popularity was beginning to fade. After five years together they eventually called it a day in January 1969. Years later, Glenn Shorrock found international success with the Little River Band, while Terry Britten went on to write songs for Cliff Richard, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson.

pipe-bowlAuf Immediate sind schöne Sachen herausgekommen in der kurzen Zeit des Bestehens des Labels, bis Loog Oldham es vor die Wand fuhr. Geschmackssicher war man dort jedenfalls.

Das wundert mich auch immer. Und auch, dass er nicht britische  Interpreten und  Bands unter Vertrag hatte, sowie z. B. The Turtles  für kurze Zeit oder auch Nico für  die erste Single.
