Jetzt hört mal auf, hier mit der Sternenvergabe so sparsam zu sein. Als ich Magic & Medicine zum ersten Mal hörte, hat es mich wirklich gepackt wie lange nichts mehr. Hey, das war doch genau der 60's-Sound, den ich so liebe und den nach "Arthur and the decline ..." keine Band mehr hinbekam (auch wenn jeder zweiten Band heute unterstellt wird, zu klingen wie weiland die Byrds, Beach Boys etc. - alles Schwachsinn).

Und Pass It On ist gehört in meine 60's Top Ten.

So, nach diesem flammenden Statement seit ihr dran, und denkt dran, ihr dürft auch 5 Sterne geben ;)

Die Unterschiede sind wirklich nur marginal, mal wird mir zuviel gegniedelt, mal sind mir die Vocals zu rau. Insgesamt spielt die Band gleichbleibend auf einem sehr hohen Niveau.

Fand M&M damals relativ schwach – wobei **1/2 nicht so schlecht ist (vgl. den Guru).
Da ich sie wieder weggegeben habe, kann ich das aus heutiger Sicht nicht mehr überprüfen.

Sehr schade - nee, dachte ja auch nicht, dass Du sie "schlecht" fändest. Mir ging es nur um den Unterschied zu "Roots".

Alleine "Liezah" und "Pass It On" sind doch bezaubernd.

Woran ich mich in erster Linie erinnere, ist, dass The Coral da - im Gegensatz zum Debut - mit dem Retrosound anfingen - ich fühlte mich schlagartig in die 60er versetzt. Es war also sicher mehr eine allergische Reaktion als eine reflektierte Auseinandersetzung. (Was, wie Du weißt, nicht generell gegen die Sixties sprechen soll, sondern nur gegen die „Gegenwartsverweigerung”.)

"Nightfreak" hab ich mir erspart, nachdem es überall zerrissen wurde und die erste hab ich damals verschlafen. An "magic and medicine" werden sie nicht mehr herankommen, trau ich mich mal einfach so zu sagen! Eigentlich hab ich nicht mehr gedacht, dass sie noch so eine gutes album wie "Roots and echoes" hinkriegen! wirkte eine zeit lang ziemlich tot die band!

Da solltest Du aber noch unbedingt nachlegen, da genau das Album den Tiefpunkt des bisherigen Band-Outputs darstellt.

Einen solchen Tiefpunkt hätten manche Bands gern als Höhepunkt.
Werde ich mir merken. :-)

Habe mir die Coral Platten wieder geholt. Und bei dem schönen Wetter, das wir die letzte Zeit immer haben, funktionieren sie noch besser als ichs in Erinnerung hatte.
