Graveface Records

Graveface Records ist ein kleines Indie-Label aus Chigago, welches von Ryan Manon (Sänger und Gitarrist bei Dreamend) betrieben wird. Beheimatet sind oder waren dort Bands (http://www.graveface.com/bands.html)wie Black Moth Super Rainbow, The Appleseed Cast, Daturah (aus Frankfurt), Laura Gibson oder Jason Molina.

Insbesondere die Vinyl-Releases zeichnen sich oft durch eine nette Aufmachung aus, z.B. hier "The Long Forgotten Friend (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3009/3249901088_8c85452c01_o.jpg)" von Dreamend.

Wie ich jetzt erst gelesen habe, wurde das Label im Juli leider Opfer eines Unwetters und nachfolgender Flut:


The Graveface Records stock/parts reside in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, ILL. Whilst I was away for the weekend, the space filled up with 3 feet of water, destroying 50-60% of my mostly unassembled product (see, everything I do is handmade or hand assembled). Insurance covers nothing because of a loophole, therefore I am out quite a bit of money/product.

Um zu etwas Geld zu kommen, veranstalte Ryan nun eine Spendenaktion, bei der man je nach Betrag Files, CDs, Vinyl, etc. bekommt und außerdem an Verlosungen teilnimmt. Z.B. für 10$ bekommt man ein File mit knapp drei Stunden Raritäten aus dem Graveface-Katalog (kleines Review dazu hier (http://www.avclub.com/chicago/articles/sifting-through-gravefaces-floodbenefit-compilatio,44313/)). Wäre schön, wenn auf dem Weg genug reinkommt, damit das Label weiterbetrieben werden kann.

Blue Water White Death is the brainchild of two of today’s most unique songwriters--Jamie Stewart of the eclectic, risk-taking pop group Xiu Xiu, and Jonathan Meiburg, golden-throated front man of Austin art-rock quintet, Shearwater. Longtime fans of each other’s music, for their first collaboration Stewart and Meiburg adopted the name of a 1971 documentary that follows a team of increasingly reckless explorers on a shark-finding quest to Australia’s aptly-named Dangerous Reef. As Blue Water White Death, the two conjure music that, like the underwater world of the ocean, is dually ominous and serene, and fittingly, considering the band’s namesake plunges boldly into new sonic territories.

I'm finally actively trying to make the William Schaff art book you have probably heard me ramble about. I know many of you have written me over the years to obtain such a thing, and for better or worse, I had to do a Kickstarter to attempt to fund it. It's essentially a pre-order for an 11x11 hardcover book featuring Schaff's music related artwork from childhood until now AND a 10" of unreleased material by Jason Molina.
