Mit den Continental drifters hab ich manchmal so meine probleme..die alben sind mur zu "schnarchig"...live sind sie allerdings viel besser!!

yep...kann man so sehen. ich hab aber sauch nur die 1.cd...die ist eher mittelmäßig...im knust hab sie mal gesehen..das war ganz witzig..der drummer ziemlich angetrunken..und auc die anderen "helden" wie peter holsapple (dB´s )..und vickie peterson von de bangles mal in so einem kleinne club zu sehen..war schon fein.

ich hab auch nur die 'vermillion', und sie ist mir ebenfalls zu brav. ich weiß, dass es das konzert im knust gab, kann mich aber nicht mehr erinnern ob ich da war.. was darauf hindeutet, dass ich es in erwägung gezogen, aber dann doch verworfen habe... *wirr*

egal, zurück zu wynn:
'here come the miracles' ist in meinen augen eine tolle rockplatte und gefällt mir vor allem vom sound her besser als z.b. 'sweetness and light' oder die dream syndicate 'days of wine and roses'. die klangen etwas kühler, dünner. die tour anfang des jahres war toll. rockend und spielfreudig, auch wesentlich bessere band als bei der 'sweetness and light'-tour.

anregung an die experten: klassische wynn /ds / gutterball-songs?

auf dem konzert wurde lautstark 'boston' verlangt und auch gegeben.

Eine auch eher schwächere platte für mich aus dem wynn umfled ist die gutterball cd "turn yor hedinkov" oder so ähnlich..auf dem return to sender lable von normal. Hab ic zwar schon lange nicht nehr gehört ( verliehen...seit 3 jahren ca. )..die ofiziellen alben von gutterball fandich um länen besser.

Wie Thokei schon einst richtig schrieb, sind alle Alben empfehlenswert. Leider gibt es aber ihr Meisterwerk "The Medicine Show" immer noch nicht wieder käuflich zu erwerben, es kommt aber eventuell im nächsten Jahr heraus. Einen guten Überblick gibt zudem das Album "Live At Rajis", was allerdings auch schon länger gestrichen ist.

Boston stammt übrigens von der "Out Of The Grey" Platte. Die Vinylversion hiervon wird oft günstig bei Glitterhouse oder Normal angeboten. Dieses wurde ebenso wie "The Day`s Of Wine And Roses" remastered und mit reichlich Bonusmaterial wiederveröffentlicht.

Auf ihrem letzten Studio-Album "Ghost Stories" gibt es eine schöne Coverversion des alten Blind Lemon Jefferson Titels "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean", dass auch der frühe Dylan schon auf Platte verewigt hat.

'Days of wine and roses' ist ein fantastische Debütalbum. 'Out of the grey' ist für meinen Geschmack aber etwas zu dünn produziert.
Sehr gut ist die 'Boston' Liveversion auf der Bonusdisc vom 'My midnight' Album.

Like the 2001 reissue of the band's first album, The Days Of Wine And Roses, the revisited Medicine Show will likely include extra tracks, new mastering, and new packaging. Originally released in 1984, Medicine Show was the Los Angeles group's lone major-label effort. It was produced by Sandy Pearlman, known for his work with Blue Oyster Cult, and caused a small backlash among fans who cried sellout. Wynn recently told No Depression that the album was "misunderstood," that A&M Records had nothing to do with the group's sound migration from caustic, Velvet-Underground-inspired to a more translucent, if no less epic style. "There was no pressure from the label at all," Wynn says. "More than anything, they wanted a noisy, trashy garage-psychedelic guitar record, because that's what they were signing. And we were kind of fumbling around trying to find something else, trying to do something entirely different." also, it doesn't make any sense for Rhino (especially Rhino handmade) to
re-release a title that they don't own within the WEA catalog and would have
to license from another major label - namely Universal/Polygram/etc.

Rykodisc/Restless - two Dream Syndicate reissues which I compiled and did
the liner notes for.

coming in April or so -

The music has been remastered and it sounds louder and prouder than ever--

Die &#39;Ghost stories&#39; ist tatsächlich sehr gut gelungen. Großartiger Sound, krachende Gitarren und einige Songs für die Ewigkeit (z.B. &#39;When the curtain falls&#39;). Einziges Manko: die doch eher dürftige Verpackung, da hätte man sich schon ein bißchen mehr Mühe geben können. Ansonsten absolut empfehlenswert.

Vielleicht sollte man die &#39;Out of the grey&#39; mal einer ähnlichen Frischzellenkur unterziehen.

Und für alle musikolgischen Komplettisten: Wynn & Co haben den Namen "The Dream Syndicate" übrigens "geklaut" und zwar von der Ur-Band John Cale&#39;s mit Cage und - ich glaube - Monte laYoung. Hatten aber nichts mit dem geschmeidigen Gitarrenrock von Wynns Combo zu tun, sondern die Ur-Syndicates waren wüster prä-VU-Avantgarde-Krach, der vor allem von Cale&#39;s Donner-Viola geprägt war&#33;

John Cage hatte nichts damit zu tun, siehe hier (http://www.bratschentratsch.de/JohnCale.htm).

Außerdem glaube ich mich erinnern zu können, daß Dream Syndicate ein Begriff aus der Literatur ist, wenn ich mich nur noch daran erinnern könnte, aus welchem Werk und von welchem Schriftsteller es ist, aber ich komm noch drauf.

War kein Buch und kein Schriftsteller, sondern Vorbild für den Namen war die LP "Ouside The Dream Syndicate" von der deutschen Gruppe Faust.
Ob die sich jedoch bei der Namensgebung an die Band von John Cale angelehnt haben, weiß ich nicht.

Medicine Show ist schon seit Ewigkeiten gestrichen. Es wird aber von Steve Wynn schon seit längerem versucht eine Wiederveröffentlichung in die Wege zu leiten. Mit einer Sicherheitskopie könnte ich bis dahin aushelfen.

The 2010 digipack version of the 1984 classic features a sparkling, powerful sound, mastered from the original tapes as well as an expanded booklet with revelatory liner notes by David Fricke never seen before photos from the archives of Laura Levine.

And if that wasn't enough, this new version includes the entire "This Is Not The New Dream Syndicate.....Live" -including the lengthy workout of "John Coltrane Stereo Blues" which didn't make the cut on the original 1991 reissue.

"I've made over 20 studio albums in the last quarter century and "Medicine Show" sounds unlike any of the others. Even though each of them occupies its own sonic space, they all follow some kind of logical trajectory. "Medicine Show" is the odd man out. Not only does it not remind me of any of MY other records, I can't even think of anything else that sounds quite like it. I still play most of the songs live on a regular basis but the record itself is beautiful, unattainable, right and wrong in all the best ways.

Karl wanted to make a big, panoramic rock record to justify our move to a major label and the plethora of attention we had received in the mere nine months that had passed since the release of "The Days of Wine and Roses." I wanted to make a "beautiful loser," button-pushing, over-the-top emotional catharsis in the tradition of most of my all-time favorite records (i.e.. "Big Star 3rd," Tonight's The Night," "Plastic Ono Band," etc.). We both got our way-- and in ways that neither of us could have predicted. I think it was this improbable collision of desires and personality that gives "Medicine Show" its character.

But the other part of the record's sound and mood is the time it took to make it. Try these numbers on for size:

The Days of Wine and Roses (recording, overdubs and mixing): 3 days, 8 hours a day

Medicine Show (recording, overdubs and mixing): 5-plus months, 7 days a week, 14 hours a day

Sandy Pearlman drove us to the limit and beyond, and you can hear the discipline, defiance, cracks-in-the-armor, mania, psychoses and the final graduation from all of the above in these tracks. I hear the laughs, the fights, the late nights, the booze, the Tenderloin, the Mission District, Sandy's ever-present baseball cap, the Clown Alley burger runs, late nights watching Dr. Gene Scott, the perilously high 24th- floor efficiency apartments at the Fox Plaza and every one of the days and days and nights and nights when I listen to this record. And I wouldn't change a thing.

It would all make a good book. And, in fact, it probably will someday."
